Oh noes, we're running out of internets and this thread is gonna make it implode.

Seriously, why do people say "waste of a thread" as if there are a limited number out there or something?

As per mashing, I don't encourage it either but once in a while just for the hell of it, it can be fun to do XD

I highly suggest you stop mashing if you want to improve. It's probably the worst way to get better at FFR. Think of it like this, let's say you're playing block ops/mw2 and you realize you're not good enough to get high k/d ratios so you start noobtubing 24/7. Sure it could be fun, but you're wasting your time if you want to improve. I don't even mash on Death Piano cause I want to keep improving my score on it PA wise.
              I have a dig bick.

Pretty much this. (Also, post your strategies for unlocking Sunlight here, as that's pretty much the only mash-pass achievement the game recognizes.)

                      Re: FFR Mash scores

Mashing is a skill in itself however. Even mashing is a skill that one can practice and improve on. You have to consider note density and adjust the speed of your mashing to compensate for the changes in note density throughout the song. Mash too fast and you'll get extraneous boo's, too slow and you'll end up getting misses. Also, the note density on different arrows might be different so you will need to mash some keys faster or slower on others. For example, in M.A.M.A., the note density of the left arrow is 0 so one shouldn't even be mashing whatever key they use for the left arrow. Good mashing actually takes skill.

I'm not supporting mashing or anything, I'm just playing the devil's advocate here. However, I have to say it is fun to mash through files like Happy Birthday just for lulz.

do not associate mashing with vibrating.

Pretty much what reuben_tate said. It's just a different way to play. You're playing a more statistical game.

Plus if you want to get good at a chart you're not going to mash anyway. Mashing is more for those charts which are ridiculous retarded anyway so you're like lol mash FC. If it's anything anywhere reasonable to your skill level you're not going to mash it and you're not going to mash to improve your skill level. You can always go back and re-do mashed stuff later as you improve.

My best mash is probably Pants FC.

Strategy for Sunlight is basically mash just the right amount not to die. Mash too fast and die. Mash too slow and you won't rack up enough boos for the unlock.

Oh and for anyone who hates on mashers so much, just play the files without mashing. If you're as good as you claim you are, you'll net the better score anyway, so quit worrying about it.

Mashing's just a big deal in FFR because the game is combo based scoring

If raw scoring was implemented, it would become "lol that's your problem for getting a shitty raw score"

Hakulyte, for me that'd be a PA score on Revo. You should just quad mash during the one part where its all the jumps. Im sure you can PA the rest of the song, so doing that would probably net you like 80 goods, 40 averages.

Its an additional aspect of the game people dont appreciate.
It's not that we don't appreciate it (well that's arguable). It just shows how much you care less about what the file is trying to portray. A good handful of files have the potential to be fun, but if you continue mashing through them just to achieve a meaningless rank, you are missing out the fun expressed in the steps of the file.

Not only that, FFR have this tendency to reward those with higher combos, where one who strives for PA are the ones who should be rewarded. Seems like the only reason to mash is to lower your ranks which is only temporarily satisfying. It's much more satisfying to work on PA and consistently improve by working out the patterns and play the file.
