More seriously, I'm a living proof that Grandtotal matters and I'm very curious about what you think could replace it in order to achieve a similar level of interest for players who eventually get stuck at a point and need an indicator that they're actually "getting somewhere". I mean, while video games recently are using cheap means like cute graphics to attract people and achievements to keep them busy. You'll have to try to come up with something similar but different to have a similar purpose if you want to keep people while being "ethical". If you manage that, you just pwned the current biggest companies on the world that are about to get punch in the face by people getting tired of being considered like monkeys. Oh wait- I believe we already have those companies got hacked threads.

Can you guys actually see that's how games works nowadays?
It's going to say achievement unlocked and we're going to be all happy for you. ily xXAll-ProXx but I needed an example.
I mean, it's all about goals and rewards and Grandtotal is just like a measure for possibly another goal and therefore useful.
I wonder if people can read between lines.

Guys we get it, lol. You've driven your point home! We're experimenting with weekly and monthly totals that give badges to people who score well on them, and then we can have a badge ranking, which will be a sort of indirect grandtotal. I promise this will be way more addicting than flat grandtotals.

Also, another possibility is that your score on a song factoring in that song's difficulty gives you a certain amount of ELO, and we could have a playerwide ranking based on that. I'm also pretty sure we have no objection to achievements.

Just trust me: I'm someone who knows how to make things addicting/viral/replay-intensive and I would not be on-board the KBO train if I thought there was no room for that.
