    Re: Why so cruel?

I just read all of this and watched the first video and basically I was disgusted.
However, the video was made to be disgusting.

Firstly in the opening scenes the narrator refers to the small pigs being killed by "Painful Carbon Dioxide".......... lksdhfaskljfsaklhfdsahfdskhfdks
Alright one thing thats freakin bs. Carbon Dioxide replaces the oxygen that you inhale and causes you to become drousy, and you fall away into sleep until your brain is starved of oxygen and you die.

If anything it is the least cruel way to kill these animals out of all the ways that the video showed.
Same with the spike to the head--which basically is a piledriver built into a handheld, and yes if you botch it the pig will still be alive, resulting in by far the most cruel thing that they showed, but thats what you get when you try to bull rush the meat process.

Not only that but pigs make A LOT of noise, so thats another thing that was added into the video for shock factor, same with the lil chickens.
And if you're wondering... yes pigs do eat their young.

Overall, very cruel and gross video, but if you've never seen this kind of stuff before it will be.
    A lot of propoganda...
    But still... gross...

No, we are omnivores and we are inclined to eat to eat an equal amount of meat and everything that is not. If you speak in terms of evolution you must consider that humans outside of our society who still hunt have a diet primarily made of non-meat foods. Industrialization changed this status quo and in todays world there is no benefit to eating meat that you can't find elsewhere. It is nearly impossible to justify the way we treat these animals, especially not in the terms you are using to justify it. You won't change your eating habits because you are accustom to eating the way you do and changing that would be difficult. This is because society, as a whole, is so corrupted by hedonism that you wouldn't stop eating it even if it was killing you, which in many ways it certainly is.

              Re: Why so cruel?

Videos like these are atrocious but pretty misleading. This is by no means common practice. Treating the animals better (giving them room to walk around, feeding them properly, improving sanitary conditions, not torturing them, etc) results in higher-quality meat anyway. It's also in a slaughterhouse's best interest to ensure animals are killed quickly and painlessly (usually involving brain-blasting that results in instantaneous death).

These videos always show the extreme cases where people are doing dumb shit like running forklifts into animals or punching them, which is heart-wrenching and cruel but not the norm.

I've been to a chicken farm before. Wasn't even near what's shown here, and this was one of the biggest chicken farms in eastern Canada. They had quite a bit of room and seemed really healthy.

We've always had our own chickens so I know about getting attached, and it's not a big deal once it's on your plate.

Here's an interesting quote on the idea of "veganism elitism."

"Veganism is not elitist. What is elitist is the idea that your palate pleasure and convenience justify the suffering and death of another sentient being." -Gary L. Francione

Cows pollute as well as other big animals ( people included, but people aren't normally eaten). plants and vegetables produce oxygen and help eliminate Carbon Dioxide.

So why would you NOT want to eat cows and chickens and meat? helpin the environment. Eating everything Green is really ****in shit up

I'm pretty sure Earth can naturally account for a healthy balance between carbon-dioxide and oxygen. However, when you add other carbon-dioxide producing elements that were introduced during the Industrial Revolution, and you take away the vegetation that stood in its place, you create an imbalance.

I was with my dad in Texas one summer and we went fishing for catfish. The person that owned the lake property did that same shit to the catfish we caught, and threw the skinned fish into a bucket of other skinned fish that were still alive.

                              Fish tasted pretty good...

I wasnt calling you a leaf-eating hippy or anything. I was referring to the people who make videos such as those you posted in order to convert people to veganism/vegetarianism/animal rights activism.
This is a perfectly valid thread, and is kinda keeping up with current events. You can now see lots of groups with stupid acronyms (see PETA )making a fuss if a factory somewhere is mistreating animals and dont bugger off unless their rallying gets results. Sooner or later, government clipboard carriers will be inspecting and making sure every animal has air conditioning and cable tv or something, to make the 'save the cows' army go away for a bit.

                                I think i'm ranting. Sorry.
