Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
sorry if you read it that way, because thats not what i meant.
Im saying in the end no matter what people do to help, its all in the hands of god.
example: you can have 3k people all quit there jobs so they can go to japan to help however they can, but in the process shit happens causing them to stay in the states. IDK about you, but if i went to help someone in a different country and were stopped, I would see that as spiritual intervention. Because if you really wanted to help but something was seriously stopping you, would that not mean you weren't meant to help? Idk though might just be me and my insanity talking lol.
And im not saying don't donate because donations can really help when handled correctly.

How can you compare intelligence and feel intellectually superior when you believe in something that logically dosen't make sense?

This isn't CT, so normally I wouldn't even bother replying to something like this. However...
Your philosophy is so morally bereft it saddens me. You're basically saying we shouldn't help, because the outcome of the event isn't contingent on anything we can do.
This is rubbish philosophy.
What if you're wrong? The consequences in that case are, we could have helped and saved hundreds of lives, but didn't. If you're right, then the only thing we've wasted is time.
There are people in serious trouble, and your balderdash about how we shouldn't do anything is pathetic.
For example,Following this logic, given the fact that many people died, probably many innocent children, even pregnant women, God didn't want them to survive. If God want's most of the people afflicted by this to survive, then they will,
This implies either 1 of 2 things.
1. God cannot help people (Why call him God then?)
2. God can help people, but chose not to. (What an asshole...)
Dig yourself a deeper hole.

Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
Reach your obviously not getting the point of what i said.
and just because people died doesn't mean god didn't want them to survive. It means that was his plan for them, yeah i know it sounds horrible like god doesn't care. But the simple truth is those people that did die in this tragedy are looking down on it from heaven. And i bet you a quadtrillion dollars that they wouldn't trade it for anything.
And PS: what i said isn't my philosophy, It's an opinion.
And when did i say don't do anything? because it seems like your making stuff up now. I even said in one of my posts that if your going to donate, then donate, because it indeed CAN help. though money doesn't solve every problem which is what you seem to think.
EDIT: ''You're basically saying we shouldn't help, because the outcome of the event isn't contingent on anything we can do.'' No your saying that not me. I think everyone should help in any way they can. Though keep in mind that a lot of people can do whatever they want to help, though that doesn't mean its going to help. Which goes for donating, and to be fair praying as well. Though those who offer help in these ways are going to argue that what they're doing does help, Which is completely normalLast edited by Mans0n; 03-12-2011, 01:32 PM.Comment

Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
I'm trying to get a Houston radio station to do something they did for the Hurricane Katrina victims. You have to donate money to listen to a song of your choice (there were guidelines). It was something like $5 for a song the station usually plays all the way up to something like $50 or $100 for something that the station would never play (again...guidelines). It soon turned into a competition of who can donate the most money between two car dealerships then a company said they would match the ending donation amount. I think it was something like ten of thousands of dollars was donated.
The best thing was so that nobody got a free song, they talked about what was going on between song requests.Comment

That's what happened at first in Hurricane Katrina and the lack of help made the situation worse than it should have beenOriginally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
Thats actually a really cool idea, Though I don't recall ever hearing about something like when Katrina came and went, though that's mostly my fault.I'm trying to get a Houston radio station to do something they did for the Hurricane Katrina victims. You have to donate money to listen to a song of your choice (there were guidelines). It was something like $5 for a song the station usually plays all the way up to something like $50 or $100 for something that the station would never play (again...guidelines). And dorby: dude im done, your obviously just trying to make me mad, which is sad. Because look what thread were in. I honestly don't care what you think about my beliefs as i don't care about yours. SO lets get back on track and talk about the subject at hand.
And a lot of what happened with Katrina was Bush's fault as well. Not trying to blame it all on him, but if he would have acted quicker our government could have saved more lives.Comment

Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
Mans0n, you're derailing this thread. You're also taking everything very personally.
Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions, if you want to have a discussion regarding them, go make your own thread. Either that or just drop it.Originally posted by ?祇園精舎の鐘の聲、

Re: Massive 8.9-magnitude quake hits Japan
Has anyone seen the damaged done to Hawaii By the Tsunami's generated by this quake? Shit looks rediculousComment

Let's just settle this.
(1)
Whatever your religion, or lack thereof, give your hopes to Japan with whatever methods your religion allows, whether it's prayer, meditation, thought, ceremonial practices, chants, whatever. Some of you may or may not actually do anything, but it's not going to hurt anybody, correct?
(2)
If you can actually help, do that too along with what I said above. If you have the financial ability to, donate money. If you find another way to help, do that. Also, a lot of people want to help but don't know how they can help , so if you can find a legitimate donation agency or if you can find another way to help Japan, tell everyone; don't keep it to yourself.
So, in conclusion, do paragraph (1) and if you can, do paragraph (2) as well. Case settled.
Sorry to be picky, but if your making a programming/(computer science) reference, it should be "!=". I figure I tell you now, so that if you do any programming, you don't end up with a parse error by putting "=!"
Yes, I live there. Not as bad as Japan though. Put most of your efforts there, not here.
EDIT: Hawaii applied for federal aid for the damage. There are "millions" of dollars in damage. They didn't say how many millions though.
EDIT2: Here's a quick summary of the damage in Hawaii: http://www.khon2.com/news/local/stor...mHN2F2ZAQ.cspxLast edited by benguino; 03-12-2011, 02:17 PM.AMA: http://ask.fm/benguino
