    Re: DDR Memories...

DDR officially began to decay after Max 2. Song selections pretty much sucked in Extreme and on. Started playing in 2001 when I randomly saw a DDR (yeah, the FIRST one) machine in what used to be an arcade. Loved it from then on. Played it every Friday for about $10~. $0.50 a play wasn't bad and free tokens wasn't bad either when you know the owner.

Best scores I ever got were on the last day I ever played at the arcade since it got shut down by the mall for rent money. AAA'd So Deep and FC'd Max 300 (like 9 greats or something).

Yeah, used to be skinny and energetic. Not so much anymore.

I don't think it decayed after Max2. DDR Extreme was a very active scene and it's when we started seeing skill explosions begin to occur. It was a pretty exciting time. :P

          Re: DDR Memories...

First saw ddr when i was 12, and my family went on vacation for new years to Niagra Falls in Canada. We popped into an arcade there and there were two Asians playing 5th mix i believe (this was in 2002). They were insanely good, and I noticed that 50 cents got them about 7 minutes of play (they played 4 songs). I was amazed how long they were able to play and i loved the music from the game

I began going to the local arade and played DDR US mix (classic) and DDR extreme (jumping forward to 2006-present). Then they got rid of the US machine for the release of Supernova.

First home console game was Extreme 2, and now i have most of them. Once Rock Band came out though I stopped playing ddr. I think the reason was that ddr was not really a challenge for me anymore (I could pass every song with at least an A), and I wanted to learn how to play the drums. Now, I am a drummer.

Sorry ~Zeta~, maybe you quit liking DDR when Extreme came out, but Exteme in the arcade was probably the most popular one ever(not to mention my personal favorite.) :P

Pshaw, Extreme2 had a sick setlist what are you talking about? :V

Anyways, off with opinions, I started BACK when I was in Grade 6 or 7, with DDR Extreme arcade. Oh god that was so fun, I skipped Beginner and went straight into Light since after watching people play it I knew how to play. After that I got Ultramix 2 for the Xbox and just went on from there.

I remember LOVING the song B4U. Well...the light chart at least.

Well, Extreme is definitely my favorite mix, hands down. There a couple I'd pull from Extreme 2 (cartoon heroes, captain jack grandale, etc.) but my love for ddr stops at extreme.

Solution: Get Japanese version of Extreme for ps2, scrap both US Extreme games.

Also I agree that anything after 8th mix is bleh overall. Although I do like some original songs they have, I just cant say the same for their stepcharts.

Oops, forgot to clear up which extreme I was talking about. The arcade Extreme was tight as can be because it was a summary of the previous games and extreme. The home version of Extreme sucked.

I remember the first song I ever played lmfao: Have You Ever Been Mellow from the first DDR. God why did I pick that song?

I remember sucking really bad at DDR when I was like 16 (Light). Around the time I first started playing FFR, I used to go to my local arcade every weekend and waste a good $20 to play some DDR. Man. I met so many people just by playing on the damn machine. I even met my first date doing it.

The terrible news is the arcade's now closed down. I have no place to play DDR anymore. I hate the soft pads since they move too much. I think there's an ITG machine like an hour away or so from me, but I have NO way to get there.

Get a metal pad I got mines for $174 on ebay. Not bad, compared to cobalts that are like $600.

Aw man. I was like, 10 when I started playing. I had always wanted to try it, but didn't until one of my friends dragged me on to play DDR Extreme. We played I Do I Do I Do, Butterfly, and one other song that I don't remember. I was so terrible. I couldn't even get through Light mode without failing and making my friend save me. But slowly I started to get better, and played every weekend at the mall. Now I can play Heavy, and some Expert songs; but our mall no longer has DDR; it switched to In The Groove. I like it for the length of the songs, but I miss reminiscing with all of the great DDR songs. :P

ITG has better charts in more ways and now you can put in custom songs (and the DDR stepcharts if you know where to look >.>)

I agree(as anyone would) that ITG has better stepcharts, and its custom/hacking stuff you can do with it is fantastic, but sometimes I miss the old DDR machines. Not because they are necesarilly better, but for the fun nostalgia.
