I don't think I can post the .sm for Gateway because it's in Thirdstyle, but you can play it over there/I could take some screenshots of it maybe

            1. cut the song into portions
            2. export the portions of the song in .MP3 format
            3. then have mixmeisters BPM analyzer analyze the portions of the song

This is very accurate, and Audacity is very easy to use.

P.s. Didn't read through entire guide, just this section at the moment.
thing is, mixmeister is almost always .02 off. Unless people know this, the world's files will always be offsync............

I tried this before, and it only works if you cut each portion accurately. If you say cut a portion of the song halfway within a beat, Mixmeister will calculate the bpm wrong.

I think we need sticky optimization, so sticked this thread and added links for old stickies.

Of course not half way within a beat, it would have to be on a fourth. Simple music knowledge is required for stepping (at least accurately).

P.s. I made a revision of this post without the Thirdstyle references and seemingly bad organization with long explanations. I'll probably send it to Patashu and see if he edits the post with some of it.

                      yes please, and thank you

I need to revise the 'tips for stepping' section too. apparently I wasn't too inspired when I wrote that part

I should probably add (and might bug patashu to actually add it to the guide) that my entire contribution to this guide is optional. If you actually give a damn about having "the best sound for the most accurate files" or whatever you use to justify $400 headphones, you probably already know what you need to. If you don't, you probably don't even need to read the section. Hell, moches steps with apple earbuds, and he makes great files.

So yeah, G is entirely optional.

oni-paranoia hasn't gotten back to me on the revised version, so I went ahead and updated the OP with some changes I've been making over at thirdstyle in response to newbies having trouble setting up, so it should be more streamlined now (hopefully!)

Do you mean for BPM stuff? or just stepping in general? I thought stepmania worked on Ma, but....
