Seems like a terrible food to try and ration.

You're hopeless. No one died, no one was cannibalized. They lowered food down to them for the last two months and they rationed it amongst themselves.

A mine shaft collapses and you are telling me it isn't surprising that not a single person died after 2 months?

They sent them food and entertainment and kept clean, cold air flowing down through small hole that I think was about 4 inches. The human body is more resilient than you must realize. We can adapt in dire situations for survival.

I'm not talking about the bad conditions, I'm talking about being crushed with rocks. Being stuck underground for 2 months is terrible and all but this is sounding less and less like a tragedy.

It's not like they were drilling around in their little cave while they waited.

I'm glad they're being rescued, but who let Baby Jessica work in a mine in the first place? </jokesnoonewillget>

Well of course not, but obviously they got trapped somehow. It seems really lucky that wherever that happened there wasn't a person there.

It's great news. I always wonder why it took so long to save them, though.

Reports say that the miners decided to have lunch in the emergency shaft. Smart. And lucky.

edit: Being trapped 1/2 mile below and the only way to get to them is drilling...yeah.

The incident itself is unfortunate but only in hindsight can we say that it wasn't "tragic." Conditions could have been a lot worse, and the miners were able to receive a considerable amount of aid. Still sucks -- but again, it could have been a lot, lot worse. Being stuck in a mine for a couple months is definitely sucky.
