Just for the record, the person playing on the left isn't JJ, if that's why you mentioned it. The Salieri pass with two people is Mad Matt and Dark-Xuxa (his name is Paul). And yeah, I've seen Kevin Boddy's FC.

My theory as to how people have improved on the pads in recent days is because skill comes with dexterity. If you think about it, in order to play the high speed games you need to have control over your reflexes and ability to perceive where you need to move your body next.
Personally, I'm a lazy ass and would rather play on a computer... But those faster songs can and will be done over time. People are just improving the usage of their brains, it's all about self control. =)

Hey, not all of the best players are super skinny freaks. If you look at Calimist, he's not exactly super skinny but more of a muscular build. WinDEU's not exactly the skinniest person either (but he's still kick ass anyway) and he can haul ass too. Just look at his collection of PIU videos and you'll see.

One thing that stops me doing stuff like Calimist can (who is insane) is I haven't learnt to flat foot yet, even after around 5 years of DDR (Haven't played on a ITG machine yet) and my muscles physically cannot tap that fast. They lock up just doing drills.
That seems more like a physical problem built in than something I could overcome.

Flat footing takes some practice, I was a person who played on my toes for anything < 11 for a while. You just have to retrain yourself on 8s and 9s to break using your toes - eventually, you'll get bored with the lower songs that you've been playing for a while. This will start pushing you higher and higher into Expert difficulty range. Feel free to ask me or Dark_Chrysalis questions or for advice regarding improving DDR/ITG play; I gave Dark_Chrysalis a lot of advice on how to improve his accuracy/gameplay and he's actually on his way to trying to pass his first 14. He also has two Dragonforce passes as well. Mind you, he was playing 9s and 10s for a good while, and he improved his skill.
