Re: Ugh, my job SUCKS.
I work at a movie theatre concession for minimum wage. I often do things like help customers carry their food to their seats and go to great lengths sometimes to help them get what they want but very, very rarely get tipped.

Re: Ugh, my job SUCKS.
It bugs me that servers get tipped and don't have to carry **** around, wipe tables, wipe the floors, and all they do is pick up plates off tables and serve their food yet bussers do almost all the dirty work and still get off with less than a tenth of percentage off the servers tips.Ah, well busboys usually make more wages, while waiters/waitresses get more tips. So it helps smooth out the earnings gap.
But in general, wait staff do make more than buspeople.
EDIT: also, I live in an extremely affluent area and the restaurant is extremely popular despite being.... cheap is a good word for it.
When I bus I usually make around $35 in tips if I bus the whole place solo and half that if I have a second busperson helping.
That's what pisses me off, earlier today my co-worker got stiffed as well and it was a party of 7 people I think? Left a bunch of **** on the table and didn't tip him squat. Zip. Nada. A WHOLE rack of plates and glasses stacked up. Napkins on the floor, food on the seats, etc.I work at a movie theatre concession for minimum wage. I was just as mad because he asked me to bus the table but I can imagine how he felt.

They said they're moving me up once I turn 18 but that wont be for another 3 months.
=/
I need the cash now because I just got my license and I'm trying to get this car before February so...I can't quit. Or else it's back to that again. Yeah, so I think this thread had enough for today.
For those of you that listened thanks I really appreciate it.

I can assure you, waiting is just as hard, if not harder, than bussing. It's a bit less physical, though. It bugs me that servers get tipped and don't have to carry **** around, wipe tables, wipe the floors, and all they do is pick up plates off tables and serve their food yet bussers do almost all the dirty work and still get off with less than a tenth of percentage off the servers tips.
It varies from restaurant to restaurant too. In addition to standard bus work, buspeople here have to bring complimentary bread and water (and cut the bread and bring the ice in for the water), sweep inside and outside, fill the drink cooler, and basically pick up whatever slack is needed most at the moment. Wait staff are pretty much busy the whole time simply getting orders, inputting orders, taking out food, dealing with bills, and counting the money at the end of the night.

Re: Ugh, my job SUCKS.
Yeah, you definitely did get stiffed today, but I bet another day you'll get tipped pretty well and that'll make up for it. At least you work a job where you get your normal wage on top of tips. When I worked in the summer, I busted my ****ing ass 8+ hours a day doing a maintenance and repair job just to make $10 an hour.Comment

Re: Ugh, my job SUCKS.
I can speak from experience that the job market is pretty rough right now. I've found work, but it's been a lot harder to find what I want compared to, say, two years ago, when jobs were practically falling in my lap (that and I have retardedly high standards). Luckily, the worst of the crisis is over and things are picking up a bit -- unemployment should start to fall here.Comment

Re: Ugh, my job SUCKS.
Dude, I could care less if you or the internet hated me it doesn't mean **** to me and I am very thankful that I have a job, that I am. No complaints, but there are certain circumstances where getting to work and having to work contrasts. It's true that I am making money even if it's the least it's still something right? But sometimes, there will be a point when you feel like you are doing more than what you are getting payed for. You'll start to realize that life isn't all sunshine and rainbows and that people aren't as nice as you think.Originally posted by ddrfelineSorry to hear that, really I am. Maybe it's because you're newer than those who have been working awhile.
But all in all, this is how I see it, Guru.
Do your parents rape you? Do they beat you? You get an education, a roof over your head, food, clothing, and extra things provided for you, right? You're probably going to continue onto college and work to be a productive and succeful member of society.
Just be thankful you have the job. Honestly, if this is the only thing you have to worry about (besides people online e-hating you) you're pretty damn lucky. But yes, we are allowed to complain from time to time. Just don't act like it's the end of the world. Find a solution, and act on it.
That's my two cents.
All I want is your input. That's it. The reason I made this was thread was so I can have you guys help me process information and to better my train of thought. That's what forums are for, to get people to share their opinions and see their thoughts about the subject, at least, for the most part, right? There are some posts that I found very helpful, some were just plain stupid, but most really helped me think and I thank you for that.
