sony is good because of marketing. they've made people such as chromer think that Gamecube doesn't offer a quality selection of a wide variety of games. which it does, but certainly isn't known for. The reason I'll always buy Nintendo consoles is because they actually care about the customer. I've accidentally left my gamecube running for very very long amounts of time, which is obviously going to ruin the laser lens (not nintendo's fault, MY fault...as they explicitly say that this is not good for the system), but eventhough my warranty was 2 years expired, and it was completely my fault, Nintendo still fixed my Gamecube for free. free shipping, free repair, all in about 5 days. they have absolutely outstanding service. But you've gotta give props to Sony. anyone who can rebuy the same product 4 times must have OUTSTANDING marketing practices. plus people are stupid.
I'll trade you this delicious doorstop for your crummy old danish.
      Done, and done.

about the 2nd week i had my DS i slammed it in the car door, i freaked out, but then sent in in to nintendo to get it repaired, they fixed it and gave me a new pen thing, all for free..
as for the PSP, im glad i didnt buy it, its nice and all, but its not very portable, the one feature i like about the DS is that it has the fold down screen to portect the screen

tru dat, muskrat, i own a ps2, but if it ever broke, id chunk it in a sec, i dont play it to often...

Oh yea, that's one thing I forgot to mention.

Didn't Sony catch on to the mistake Nintendo made with the GBA? Not protecting the screen in any way (without purchasing a case) is going to ruin it FAST. The fold-down screen is essential nowadays.

It's a good thing you didnt since it isnt even avaliable in America yet.

I agree, Nintendo makes durable products....because their main target is younger children, who, by their design, are clumsy and stupid.

America and Japan have different ways of viewing electronics. Japan is very neat and protective of their electronics...where as Americans generally arent (I mean, hell, I've used my cell phone as a hacky sack). I think Sony has underestimated that fact about Americans when designing the PSP.

But, you know, the same thing was said about the iPod. Seriously, a chrome-mirror finish backing, and plastic front? Yeah, it's nice for about a a week, then it gets all scratched up...unless you keep it in a case. But hell, Apple has had the best sells year of it's corporate-life.

I hate the back of the iPod.

What were they thinking? As soon as you touch it and turn it around, BAM, fingerprints all over. It's stupid. And just keeping the thing in a jacket pocket with soft liner is scratching it up. I have no idea how.

I'm hoping you guys saw that Episode of Screen Savers where Kevin was talking about the same exact thing. He said to just take a regular Scotch pad and doing a stroking motion from Top to bottom, scratch the color off of the back of the iPod. Voila! You have a polished steel iPod back. Trust me it looks cool.

On the other hand, No, Sony has not "brainwashed" me to accept only Sony products. Like I said before, I have been playing Nintendo ever since I was born. Hell, my love for video games started with Nintendo. But as I grew older, my passion for video games took a turn for the better when I first discovered the PSX. Now that I can think for myself, the PS2 and PSP offer better gameplay and overall quality that I desire. I'm not saying that the GC is "teh SuXXor", all I'm saying is that I had to choose between Nintendo and Sony, and I chose Sony. Simple as that. Oh and did anyone notice there's a handlebar on the back of the GC? I don't know if this is to pick your GC up, or to prove its durability since its being used by little kids.

                    Carrying Handle.

                    Transportation.

You can carry it around and crap. You know, if you wanted to bring it to a friend's house or something. You know. Play games with other people. At other houses.

That didnt stop millions of people from buy it. What were they thinking? Probably that it wasnt a big enough issue to prevent people from buying it and in doing so, they created a whole new market of iPod carrying cases.

What was Sony thinking when designing the PSP? Having such a large screen with no way to protect it from scratches and fingerprints? Probably that it wasnt a big enough issue to prevent people from buying it and that they could also milk more money out of it by selling cases seperately.

And it worked. Sure, if you twist the PSP the UMD slot opens ejecting the disc. Sure, the square button is missed placed. People are still buying it. And when it comes to America and Europe, even more people will buy it.

if you ask me sony should have made the PSP with even more flaws. Where buttons fall off, games get stuck in the device until you twist it, and so on....that way they could triple their sales....since they obviously don't care about the consumer.

For earlier in the thread (which I missed because I don't come to these forums much): in case you guys didn't know, you can send your PS2s in and get them fixed by Sony for free. I was complaining to my friend about my broken PS2 when she told me this. She linked me to a FAQ (somewhere on GameFAQs, I think) about it. Apparently there was a big law suit and Sony got in big trouble, so they have to fix all PS2s with the "disc read error" problem for free. There's a number to call and an address to send it to, and you get it there and back fairly quickly from what I hear.

As for me, we always buy warranties on any electronics that cost much at all. We got a warranty on the first PS2 we got, back when it was $300. When it broke down, the PS2s had just been reduced to $200, so when we got the voucher for a new one we had some left over. It was enough to warranty-ize that one and get a game or something, I can't remember what we got. That one has since broken down and we're sending it in and will get a voucher soon enough. I'm pretty sure the price is down from 200, so we'll have leftover for another game or whatever .

And my beef with the GC and the X-Box are their back asswards controllers (the GC especially). PS2's is more ergenomic (sp?) and more natural to play. Not only is the X-Box one huge, but there are 6 buttons cramped in there whereas the PS2's has 4 on top and 4 on the front. The GC's is just....weird. Not as bad as the N64, but geez. I'm not really a console person anyway, so I'm not really big on which has what games. Well, I do know that the PS2 has Gradius 5. Therefore, <3 PS2 even more.

As far as kicking the PS2 around and it skipping: why the hell does that matter?! As others have said, Nintendo makes their products durable. I've seen pictures of NES cartridges shot with firecrackers that still work just fine, though the plastic around them is melting and whatnot. Nintendo products are like friggin tanks, yes, but that's because they've always been for kids. I've never broken my PS2 because of knocking it over or anything (for those of you who think the "disc read error" message is the user's fault, it's not. I'm very careful with my electronics, but the laser becomes misaligned after some use. It's a fairly easy thing to fix if you crack the PS2 open, which I might do, except that would void the warranty). I've actually never knocked the PS2 over at all. I've tried turning it over and leaning it while trying to get Gradius 5 to run (it's blue-bottomed, which means the PS2 won't read it anymore ) and it didn't seem affected at all. I did bash my PSX up quite a bit, though. Back in my old house, we would play on the bed and the cords would run from the bed to the PSX on the dresser, so the cords were mid-air. I dunno how many times somebody would step on a cord and the entire console would get pulled off the dresser and hit the ground. Usually we'd just have to plug the A/V cord back in (the power cord is more secure, I guess) and then we'd keep playing. Only problem we ever had with the PSX was that the lid didn't shut too well after a while, and I think that's due to it falling so much. You just had to hold to lid to the side so it would catch on the thing and stay shut, that's all.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

EB, the GC controller is a piece of art. The only thing wrong with it is the somewhat oddly-placed Z button. Everything else is perfect. You need to play with it for only a little while and it becomes second nature. The X-Box controller was a loaf of junk until they revamped it. The PS2 controller is good, but they could've fixed up the D-Pad a little bit... the directions are too closely placed for my tastes.

Remember, EB, it took a lawsuit to make Sony repair their consoles. Nintendo did it without any legal suit or something of the sort brought against them. They do it because they care about their customers. Which can bring us back on topic... how about that intentional flaw on the PSP? XD

PROUD OWNER OF TWO OMEGA FAVORS. YEAH, NICE TRY.
