Tim Burton is directing this thing, and if I recall, the direction he's taking it some wild mixture between animation and live action. Like live action turned into animation.
this has been done before though im not sure if its exactly the same thing as what youre talking about. i dont know i havent been keeping up on it.
see: Richard Linklater's Waking Life
and also A Scanner Darkly.

correct me if thats not what you're talking about
Those are rotoscoped. That's not what I'm talking about. I think he's placing the actors in a digital world, and bending the image in a way that gives it an unnatural look. The image of the Mad Hatter there doesn't express it much, but the promo shot of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee show it.
Alice in Wonderland

Directed by: Tim Burton

Yeah I've seen the promo pics for this movie already. Might watch it only because there are so many colors. I dunno, but looking at a whirlwind of colors just hypnotizes me.
conversely, "if you do it like this/because you are doing it like this, i will pay you"
You're right sort of, but that's still financial control, not artistic. They can influence the one with artistic control, but it's the same kind of **** like when the Federal government threatens to withhold funding for states if they don't essentially sign over the rights the Constitution explicitly and/or implicitly gives them rahter than the federal government. It's bull****.
