I actually prefer the SM editor for stepping.
I only use ddreamstudio to sync speedups and dynamic songs. But other than that it's pretty much useless to me.
If I want a tiny bpm change, i'll just sync it by ear, not worth my time to import to ddream and export to sm editor.
If I want a bpm stop(s), I'll just calculate it and put it in the .sm file and reload.

And I find putting the actual notes in the sm editor more solid than ddream. But I guess that's just personal taste.

I've never used 0.1x music for syncing.

0.2x-0.3x are sometimes useful to do clear simple parts like piano solo.

I guess for any really "crisp" sound like that produced by a drum hit it could be beneficial to go sub .3x. Other than that .3x is always sufficient for me.

*edit* And of course for the stuff mentioned in the OP.
“Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the 'transcendent' and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion; prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don't be afraid to be thought arrogant or selfish... Suspect your own motives, and all excuses. Do not live for others any more than you would expect others to live for you.”
