SHE GOT CITED. She did NOT get out of this unpunished.

Did you even read the article? Can you even read? Are your responses just fits of perplexing whimsy?

She is being fined for abuse of the system. That does not mean that she was not wronged by a major corporation.

Dialing the 911 line is uncalled for but she is being punished for that.

But you do not seem to understand that she did not call because they were out of McNuggets.

She called because THEY CHEATED HER OUT OF HER MONEY AND REFUSED TO GIVE IT BACK. That is JAILABLE.

Hell yeah, Kopp's. That was THE place to hang out when I was a kid. It was literally down the street from my elementary/middle school (it turned into a middle school the year I graduated from 6th grade, so I ended up staying in the same building, which was pretty cool).

In fact, my family went back there during summer of '05 and we got more than our fair share of nostalgia. The sundial in front of my old high school, the Firstar fireworks on my birthday (July 3), downing Sprecher root beer floats, driving by our old house, going to the art museum...that was the best vacation ever.

(And to this day, we still buy our spices online from Penzey's.)

*ahem* Getting back on topic, I read about this on another forum, but I take the point of view that we're all idiots sometimes. It's simply impossible to be on top of your mental game 24/7. Still, she might have a point in that the bait-and-switch is generally illegal, but calling three times in a row is clear evidence that she does not understand the purpose of the 911 line. <_<

Uhh.. what? When did I say she got out of this unpunished? And also when did I say that McDonald's did nothing? Jesus!

I'm saying she did something wrong and got punished for it. And I never argued that McDonald's screwed her over. I was simply saying that since they wronged her, it was her responsibility to call a non-emergency police number and report it instead of abusing the emergency system with something that was not an emergency.

Man, you know this is serious when we start using CAPITALS, bold font, and italics. ;P

She called because they pulled a bait-and-switch. Who said I didn't understand that? When was this ever the issue with me?

Yes, you're right. You're absolutely right. It was a criminal act. Not all criminal acts are emergencies. There was no immediate threat to her person, nor was there any violent act or fire, so she should not have called the emergency line. Once again:

Non-emergency police line: for reporting criminal issues that are not emergencies
Emergency police line: for reporting fires, battery, armed robberies, shootings, etc.

So you're telling me that there shouldn't be any regulation of this stuff? The bottom line is the emergency system needs to be kept open for emergencies. Obviously I wouldn't have access to police records denoting calls and resulting deaths at the time, so there's no way I could give you that and you know it. That doesn't make what I'm saying any less valid.

If she had to call someone, she could've called a friend and asked for advice, asked to talk to a manager, or GASP dialed ****ing 411 and asked for the non emergency number.

No excuses. She was being stupid, and she's now paying for it.

Also, once again: you would be right to call the police. The non-emergency number.
            The emergency here was theft.

No, theft isn't an emergency, apparently.

So, Organism, when you give me your money, you can just file a complaint with the BBB and wait a few months for them to finally come around.

Well I don't know the correct term but they are holding her money hostage or forcing her to get something she doesn't want.

She should of went to Burger King and had it her way

                  Guys, you're being retarded.

Obviously she misused the line and shouldn't have done that. Obviously McDonalds was out of line by not giving her back her money and forcing her to buy something else.

Stop debating useless semantics when it's clear you guys both understand this.

Mal: It doesn't matter -- you don't call 911 when someone is jacking your money in a transaction.

Not all criminal acts are emergencies. Is it really that hard to understand? You all act like it's some sort of conspiracy. That's the law and it's perfectly understandable. She got punished for her stupidity in calling the wrong number, and McDonald's did its part to make things right, which it likely would have done if she'd talked to a manager.

Uhh, no. The non-emergency line would have taken care of things, and the BBB doesn't usually handle complaints of that low a magnitude, even if it is a crime. McDonald's conducts its business fairly, and this case was an exception. She could have talked to a manager or called the non-emergency line.

Also, Mal, as to the bolds and italics, I was trying to lighten things up because I'm not interested in a needless shouting match with a poster I rather like.

So, end of discussion. I'm bowing out.

lmao at illogical conclusion. but then again we are talking about chicken mc nuggets so you look slightly dumb as well for overblowing this. fair enough she should have been offered a refund but most reasonable people would either get over it or take it up with the manager, and not be so selfish as to call 911 3 times when there could have potentially been far more serious, life threatening emergencies to deal for the operators to deal with.

It's illogical to think that just because I am calling 911 that someone else is being stabbed and denied a line. Logistics say, there is another line open.

It is not illogical to create a situation with greater monetary values and different items at stake to parallel the aforementioned situation and put it in terms where it actually could mean a little more.
