no it's more the fact that you think posting an entire family's personal information/encouraging the harassment of said family in retaliation for some kid posting a youtube video is somehow helping the movement against animal cruelty. /b/ doesn't "get anything done." ever. No, that's not what I was saying. I was saying that the frequency with which a crime occurs shouldn't have any relationship to how the crime is considered. Rape happens all the time, but that doesn't make it anything less than sexual assault. Cats get abused all the time, yet animal cruelty isn't okay because of that fact. The fact that something so terrible is considered "normal" has frightening implications for the future of this society. "Normal" is not the same thing as "healthy" or "good", it is simply what is typical. There's a difference. Lots of people are trying to lessen the extent of this crime simply by noting its frequency. It doesn't work that way.

I said that violence begets violence and I have no sympathy for this kid or his family. If it's a case in which the kid makes a bad decision, I understand the want to make amends, but given that he's sadistic, I have no excuse to give for his behavior. You set the house on fire, you watch it burn. I'm not anti-social. I am, however, very harsh on those who abuse and destroy, who cause others pain for personal gain or even pleasure. I will not defend such causes and will fight against them. /b/ lashed out at this kid, and I'm glad that the kid is in for his due process so he can pay his debt to society, so to speak.

What ever happened to objectivity? This thread along with this specific incident proves left and right the many problems we run into when objectivity is thrown aside and we let our emotions run rampant. I can see NO progress from any of this. Bickering from both sides who seemed so butt hurt that they only try to argue a case to discredit another individual solves nothing.

I cant BELIEVE how many people are so outraged by this event that they would want to inflict maximum penalties on a teenager and his family as well as blatant harassment. No one said you have to condone his actions but stepping over the line makes you no better. Dont misunderstand, BOTH sides of this argument show many examples of hypocracy in the way you form your view. Its ridiculous to see that people go along their daily lives hearing about murders and rape on the news and say 'thats a shame' but see a cat getting beat and freak out. If all of you want something productive to talk about, i suggest you talk about the moral implications of humanity's gradual desensitization.
