Cursing is far, far stronger the less often you use it.

You never hear me use the F-word. If you do, you know I mean business. I like it that way. : )

I think I swear just because my parents don't let me swear.
My parents are great. They let me swear...but they don't like it. My mom doesn't, at least.

Dad always was kind of weird. I was talking to him a while back and the topic came to legalizing weed. I told him my stance (why the hell not?) and he nodded slowly before telling me his secret.

"Don't tell your mother this, but the only reason I don't want you doing drugs is because it's illegal. Otherwise, I'd be happier letting you smoke you lungs out."

A momentary silence lingered throught the car. Lumpy rustled in the back some. Life went on.

Needless to say, my dad is awesome.

In my opinion, the effects of cussing and cuss words are all relative to whoever is the reciver of the words. My friends understand that i normally don't cuss, and often times i do to create a humorous tone. For example, if someone began babbling and suddenly paused, and if everyone was standing gaping at the babbler, i would ask, with a raised eyebrow, "what the ****?". It can't be argued that curse words don't add emphasis, just that they are only emphasizing the tone of the statement they are contained in.

Put in a different way, cussing puts stronger emphasis on what your saying. Saying OH NO!!!! Is not going to have the same effect as OH SHIT!!! However, I don't approve of using a cuss word in every sentence just to make you feel superior.

Am I the only one that still wants the ffr simfiles back?

Kilgamayan is right. But I really cant see someone cussing in every sentence.

You've never heard me use it either. And that's because I never have. Ever. Same thing with most swears, the few times I did I was young and didn't even realise it was a swear.

I have let words slip before, but I try my very best to never cuss. I represent a lot of people in this small town of mine...and it just projects a bad image to other people when you say stuff like that. I also like to believe that those who cuss don't know the dictionary very well...meaning they are illiterate and don't have a very big vocabulary outside of their curse words...and they just don't realize there's MANY MANY words that you can use without being looked down upon. In another way, it makes the other person look pretty dumb when they have no idea what you're talking about. If they're curious enough though, they'll find out and then "TA DA!" we have a better vocabulary!

I just hope that I wasn't the only one who understood that...

Re: Why do we (you) cuss?

well, c, i cuss. we all do. its a way of expressing ourselves. not all emotions/expressions are good. i think that the words that we call 'cuss' words are just words/meaningless strings of gibberish that we say because there is really no other way to express ourselves at that moment.

i do frown on cussing around people who u do not feel at home with, and on using extreme cuss words. but, i, like u, cant really tell people its BAD, cause i do it too. so, really, u can decide on ur own theory, but it is just one of those Qs that few men will every find the answer to.
                  like:
how come 'sewer' literaly means 'one who sews' when the definition is 'where wastes and excess water go?' hmmm...

If I may quote my Sophomore year English teacher, "If you're angry, then cuss. It's not hurting anyone."

I honestly think that cussing in and of itself is subjective and depends on both the speaker and the listener (Or listeners, as the case may provide). My personal view is that so long as cuss words aren't used offensively (Although there are plenty other words that would work equally well when played right) it can provide some interesting life to conversation. No, I don't promote the use of them, but if they're placed well, I don't mind either. So long as they aren't every other word out of a person's mouth, I consider them just as much a part of vocabulary as any other word.

...just as long as people don't use it every other word or bring religion into it (example: GD)...i'm okay...it really gets me angry when they start using religion in the same phrase as their curse words...

...sticking with original summary: those who cuss don't have a very big vocabulary...

I swear from habit. Also, when I am angry, which is very, very often.

...if you're THAT angry...go take a karate class or something...if you're in school...join a football program...do something physical, it usually does wonders for anger...

I have been lobbying my parents for getting a full-sized punching bag.

                            And I wanna start ninjitsu.

You don't need ninjitsu to vent anger. I learned that in Karate.
