    Re: FFR's First Literary Contest

For the contest, NFD decided to write a third person story narrative about something that happened to him recently. To get into character NFD will be typing in third person also.

Oh, you're writing about an event that happened to you in the third person? Sounds very interesting. Will this be told through the eyes of a friend or family member, or do you wish not to diverge details until the contest begins?

Well, we had to do basically this a few weeks ago for my Comp class. Basically, we had to take an event from our life, and talk about it in third person. For example:

"Tyler waved at his friends as they got off the bus."

Alright, that would probably be for the best.

Just FYI, All_That_Chaz ran a Lit tourney awhile back. I think he gave out subbies for prizes.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to some good entries, and once again, thanks for offering me a judging position, rzr, but I see you have acquired four very capable judges in my stead.

Good luck to all, and try to keep this tourney on its feet, rzr.

Also, sign me up for the one day AND one week divisions. I may only work on one, none, or both, I don't know yet.

We shall see how work goes for me. Also my strengths in my judging will be in plot and structure, I'll weight less on grammar/spelling/etc.

I don't think judges are allowed to enter the contests. I'd ask rzr for clarification, but I'm pretty sure he isn't allowing it.

I'm not in favor of that. Unless you can find a temporary, impartial judge to take your place. Or drop as a judge. Otherwise, it's not fair. Hell, me AND Bynary would sign up if we could.

I'm not digging the 1 day and 1 week deadlines. It's too short imo.

I definitely think judges shouldn't be able to participate - there's way too much bias there... and if Phynx found a temporary judge to take his place then the judging would be inconsistent.

Precisely my point - it would be all too easy to boost your own ratings, or at the very least think your work deserves more than it does. Considering there's bound to be little opposition to the judge's decisions, I would hope they couldn't participate.

But if Phynx chooses to drop his position, who will take his place?

I think if Phynx really wants to participate, he should just forfeit his place as a judge.
