Yeah I used Cingular -- everything came in Text Message format, and it was a very smooth and error-free process.

Re: Wtf @ the new token *mwahahahah*

          Also, by the way..
To my knowledge..If we were to do this with other songs, albums, and offer other goodies like tokens along with the purchase, the selection would be pretty limited until we have complete and total permission or some sort of contract drawn up between the artist's album we're selling and the song to the token we're giving away (or whatever else may be). Don't forget that many artists on this site are under the impression that we're not gaining any revenue from their music being on our site; I'm sure Synth and SpookG are still really close friends and obviously have something worked up. Album + Song of the skill token are made by the same artist, thus, being much easier. Something like.. having a corn and beans album released for sale (assuming that we had spoken to him) and then giving away another token, let's say a Venetian Snares song, would be completely different. Most of the artists that do feature music on FFR and are actually a part of the community probably wouldn't mind something like this, to my knowledge, but once again, they too would need to confirm it with Synth/Jason/Mal/Staff. I know most of you do know this already, but for the people who don't and just start requesting -insert artist here- and -insert random token song here- and expect/in hopes of seeing it, I'd suggest first reading about these things.
Onto other things, as for the idea itself, I think it's splendid. Sure, asking users on the site to pay for songs in which they've heard for years on this site or can just by the album elsewhere is and will be percieved as something "a-bit-extreme-" in some aspects, but I can totally dig where you're coming from. This opens up quite a few possibilities, such as creating "specific FFR albums" that are only available via a purchase like this. It's completely great for the artist because it's giving them more than just a way for music seekers to hear their music, but it's also creating a small source of revenue and opens up relations with other things in the future (and FFR as well)
As for setting up the forms of payment, I would suggest it that we also have a gift option; if this whole thing actually ends up getting larger with more artists I can definitely see this end up being just like how subscriptions are currently. And of course you're going to end up getting the "Hey lulz I just downloaded the entire album off of -insert program/site/person" here. I can't believe you paid for this lulz" Eh, screw you. Actually take the time and realize that this isn't all about yourself and you're helping more than just your ears and wallets when doing this.
I think I may be tl;dr'ing a tad bit now, time for some sleep.

i'll be reaching out to all of the in-house guys that i speak to... which is basically all of them. this is just the initial test to see how things go. we are looking to expand it to more artists, definitely.

and, from talking to them previously about selling music via FFR... well... the response was overwhelming. those guys are mostly college kids who are hurting for cash. any extra influx helps them greatly.

Wow... This turned out to be quite the thread last night, even after I passed out. Thank you to all the people who purchased through mobile last night and sorry about t-mobile and verizon not working. We are going to work on finding a new service that supports both of those. I know one of them that atleast supports t-mobile. Also, when Mal finishes the paypal version, we will post this on the main page.

I think the idea and intent here is genuine with the album sales. Now let's take it one more step forward. Let's say we acquire some artist that has some obscene amount of friends on MySpace.. T.I. (purely for example) has 1.9 million friends on myspace and lets imagine he advertises that if people go to blahblahbuysong.php, they can purchase his album and or 10 customized levels of his song. T.I.'s management gets a cut and that is that.

                Good idea?
                Thoughts? Should we pursue?

                Cheers,

Re: Wtf @ the new token *mwahahahah*

i think thats a VERY good idea.

marketing mainstream artists through the internet is a fast way to get their name spread about. People will want there music so will most likely buy it. FFR wins because it will get more money in as well as more new users. and the artist will win because it will push their name to another marketing area that has gone untapped so far for them.

And that would be sweet if you guys did find a service that did cover verizon and t mobile(ME!! THIS IS MEE ) so everyone gets a chance to pay by phone if they choose.

I say... Win! Haha, tell Tom to advert on his page. That'd get millions of hits I would imagine, especially if he himself hyped it up on his page or even a myspace homepage announcement for it XD Though this realistically won't happen unless some serious ass kissing ensued. Lol.

Synth, I like the idea of FFR doing this kinda stuff... But, to tell you the truth, wouldn't music sales be better off done through Rithum instead?

EDIT: And you don't know how much I can't wait to try this mobile thing... Even though I've read now that it doesn't work in Canada yet >_>

I certainly don't see why not. The consumer would get their music and FFR songs, you'd get your share to help the site's funding situation, the artist would get more publicity, AND it's got an incredibly convenient delivery process. Not to mention the large potential membership gain through it, which could lead to further revenue with potential subbies.

Sounds like a perfect plan to me

Twilight, it does work in Canada and about 130 other countries. It all depends on the carrier that you have. It's pretty simple, if you try it and it doesn't send you a code then it doesn't work.

                              Cheers,
