About the pet thing..the best hunter in my guild right now (Full T6) has Ironback as a pet. It's a rare turtle, and he seems to find them very nice for tanking. They have low DPS though, which is bad in instances. He used to have a cat (Not sure what it was, I don't remember) but he found out that turtle is the way to go. xD
I never leveled a Hunter past 50, so I don't know any of the turtles learnable skills. I'm pretty damn sure they can learn bite, growl and cower. I'm probably forgetting something, meh.
EDIT: Oh my gosh how could I have forgotten about shell shield, that's their special skill.

What class and race did you roll, so I know to roll a different class and the same race.
I think a buddy of mine used one of those to tank Onyxia on our 4-man run a while back. I had to wand to stay beneath its threat, it took forever.
Well, I went with a gnome lock. And to foxyroxy2693, didn't they make the mounts gettable at 30 now instead of 40? Cause that's what I saw when I was in Eastvale earlier. And Ground, ill either be on Glorne my main or on Aubreyy, my lock, just give me a wisp in game and let me know whats going on.
I have a few characters on Malfurion, but they're all low level:
Deusregum - 31 (or 32) Tauren Druid
Necamus - Undead Warlock (low 1x, I think)
Bashent - 18 Undead mage

Yeah I know, they should have done this a long time ago. It's not like having a mount as a low level makes you overpowered, it just saves you from running halfway across the barrens and back just to do a quest and hand it in for a crappy reward.

Druids have had Travel Form at level 30 since...forever. I'm surprised this didn't actually happen sooner.
Travel form is still useful in combat situations. But yeah, on my druid, I got a 30% speed increase at level 21 from cat form (feral spec). 40% from travel form at 30. And I'm seriously missing them on my mage.
I remember way back when when it was cool to get your mount at 40, lol. It was a big deal, but now, eh. They should really either get rid of flying mounts...or let you use them everywhere. Just think of sky guards outside the major cities and the possibilities of PvP with that.
