Out of the 17 people I tried to play SWR with, 13 of them could not make a direct connection, and all 17 could with Hamachi. Half of them were from Japan, but there were some nearby residents too.
I'm not entirely sure how the lag is situated in these games, but it seems like the person who makes the game room gets much less lag then does the person that enters it.
Hamachi may lag... but from what I've seen, most people can't make direct connections. Hamachi can also group members with the same goal, which is the main reason why I based this thread on Hamachi.
If Hamachi proves to be inefficient, then we can just make this thread useful for meeting other Touhou Online players who want to play other people.
I'm not smart. Hamachi was an option suggested by one of my Japanese friends (Sac Mrs on FFR, a Marisa player). I don't know any other options for making a secure connection for Online play.

Izzy: Touhou 10.5 is the only game that requires the game to find a .dll outside of the game folder itself. That redirecting is done in Japanese unicode, which can't be done if you don't have the proper language/unicode installed in your computer.
