I did that and I never noticed a difference, and I still lag from time to time depending on who I play.

Well of course you're still going to lag. This just helps the connection and you would think "cut the lag in half" is a bit over exaggerated.

I guess I was removed from the player list as well as the ladder. Is there any chance I can be listed in the player list, but choose to not participate in the ladder? It seems like there are plenty other people who are in the player list, but not the ladder.

Also, if I may make a suggestion, use indents or something to increase readability of the player list. Example:
