Dragonforce is interesting. Many people hate on them for stupid little things. If you listen closely there's actually a demonic voice in some of the songs xD
As far as arguing about the "best" type of metal, cut the crap. Don't bash people because of a damned opinion. That just makes you look like a douche, and makes you sound more ignorant because you're not open enough.
We're trying to open up suggestions to new bands and discuss which BANDS rock out loud, so stop flaming. Thank you kindly. =]

Anyways. Unearth, A Dozen Furies, Trivium, Disarmonia Mundi, Tragic Deity, Neaera, The Absence, Alexisonfire, I Am Ghost. All good stuff. I have no mp3s of Tragic b/c they're a local band, but they're fricking amazing!

Horns up to those 3. Especially The Absence. They are so metal they don't even have a bass player.

        1. Dragonforce sucks for obvious reasons.
        2. Half of the bands you listed here aren't even metal
        3. Axamenta is by far the best death metal band to have ever blessed this earth.
        4. Brutal breakdowns are retarded, boring and all the same.

Seriously, though, I don't understand what the **** some of the band members are thinking when they start to make music. It's not original, new, clever, nothing... It's just bland, overdone, overhyped, unoriginal. It's not so much that only a few bands manage to be good, it's that so few actually try.

          Old new school.
I used to listen to this stuff when I was 13-ish

Alexisonfire is so death metal. I love the way the use phrygian minor scales with such complexity, in a Jeff Water's spiderweb kind of manner.
Sarcasm. Love the band to bits, but they're not really thread-related.

          Annihilator is awesome as well.
          So is Daath.

I listened to Axamenta. Awesome band. Love the keyboards, and the guitar work is stellar.

They sort of remind me of Borknagar with the melodic vocals too.

Nah, unfortunately I'm going to have to side with the truer people here.

Core does suck and I don't like to stand for music that just steals the aesthetics and superficial aspects of metal without anything of substance to it. That's what this whole thing is about.

I like how ShAi said he was going to leave the thread, yet he's been here every time I come in.

Oh, yeah, I can see you even though you're invisible. It's a cool trick.

Also, BluE, it's not that I'm not 'true', I just like the core stuff as much as I like the other fields of metal. I like it all to be honest, except for most powermetal and the really gritty, unpolished black metal.

I like hardcore. The old hXc, sXe to the newer metalcore and such. As long as it isn't too faggy with gay choruses harmonically singing "she left me" while the backing vocal guy screams it, in a "kick-in-the-nuts" type of way.

I'm guessing you only listened to Ashes to Flesh from their myspace, but that's only the tip of the iceberg, really. The rest of the album is so amazingly amazing, that it blows anything else away.

I must of listened to it at least 200 times (not kidding).

Yeah, I listened to Ashes to Flesh, however, it was from their website rather than myspace.

I would buy the CD, but it's like $18 (12 Euros), plus overseas shipping. Oh well. :\

It's definitely not technical metal - but the band Eluvietie is certainly an interesting listen.
