For examples of a damn good tournament... which mine are the top quality tournaments on FFR, only rivaled by those created by EnR I'd suppose :P... go here and check out some parts of my 1st tournament... which is record breaking in terms of prizes and sign-ups.

Pfft...I think mine go over rather well as well :P So just check out other peoples tournament threads, like EnR, Phynx and mine, that should give you a better idea on how to go about things.
