Re: 13 year old girl commits suicide from myspace hoax
These people do well in school and I find they can pay attention. People have tried to diagnose me with ADD but seriously...they diagnose everybody with ADD. My thoughts are pretty much exactly like that South Park episode. I also know ADD has nothing to do with being hyperactive but not being able to pay attention comes across to me as always doing other things such as doing homework then turning on the TV, getting bored of that then listening to music. When I said a "calm and mellow person" I meant that they sit down and can do things without constantly getting up and doing other things.
To fido:
No, you really can't ****in assume she didn't suffer from depression. Your logic seems to be that some doctors are overzealous in diagnosing ADD, therefore the doctor that diagnosed her depression must have been overzealous in doing so. That's all I'm reading from your posts. I'm not taking the time to write up another quote for you, but you also said that a bad post was one that had bad grammar and/or spelling...devoice (2x), acual, thereself, idea's for the plural of idea, ect. for etcetera, i was saying she was one i was just saying she might be or probably is, bs. I'm not even gonna ask you what you meant by telling me that you live in Canada. The girl we're talking about lived in the U.S., so I would of course talk about U.S. laws (though I don't remember talking about laws at all). Please quit sticking to the flawed argument "I said she probably had a good life like most North Americans...not a bad one." It's pretty hard to assume she had a good life because, well, she committed suicide. You're apparently trying to portray her as having no reason to commit suicide because that strengthens your argument of her being a "stereotypical myspace drama queen". You didn't know her, so don't assume she had a good life.
I actually missed that part of the article or didn't remember be cause I don't bother reading first post when revisiting a thread. So she was diagnosed as being depress so I will assume she was depressed. I do feel more sympathy for her but since this is the internet as there are much more depressing things in the world I still find it kind of funny that that set her off. When I was talking about me living in Canada I was saying that here in Canada people are diagnosed with stuff they really don't have because they get payed more for diagnosing problems. Our health care is run by the government so everything a doctor does allows him to get payed a set number of cash for that. Not all doctors are like this but it's common. An example of this that doesn't involve diagnoses but is similar to the case is I was almost put is Special Education. I had a 80%-90% average but "I wasn't organized" so to help me with my organization skill they tried to put me in SPED. My parents fought tooth and nail until they put me in a private school who simply said "Your marks are good but since your unorganized get a lap-top". Instead of turning into a dumb ass because I have to learn 5 year old material over and over again i just bought a laptop from which I am posting with now. If I was in SPED the school would have gotten an extra $10000 in funding and I've seen them do this a lot as one quarter of the students are SPED and half of the school (except the quarter in SPED) had an "Independent Study Plan" which pretty much you talk to a lady once a term and she teaches you learning strategies. The school gets $2500 for that.
In closing I now see that she was probably depressed but I do have to disagree and say she probably had a good life. When people in North America say "life sucks" it sickens me unless they have AIDS or have had all of their limbs hacked of. Most people who say this believe life sucks because they compare their lives to people better off than them and say "That's the good life" and then when they look at theirs it looks like crap.Last edited by fido123; 01-13-2008, 02:49 PM.Comment

Re: 13 year old girl commits suicide from myspace hoax
Everyone involved is stupid, depending on whether she was actually clinically depressed or not.
The parents are stupid for not monitoring her internet-related activities a lot closer, KNOWING that she had clinical depression, assuming she actually did. Also, making very well sure that she understood that people on the internet can be fake should have been one of their priorities. If she didn't have clinical depression, I can't find much fault with them, since they probably couldn't have seen it coming.
I personally think that those who kill themselves for no good reason should be looked at with disgust and loathing, not respect and sympathy. If she wasn't clincially depressed, in my eyes she's just a stupid girl who never managed to realize how unimportant Myspace is before taking it to the extreme, and managed to severely hurt her family, not to mention end her own life, as a result. If she was, then the fault totally lies with the parents IMO.
And then the mother of the other girl needs to be beaten or something. Not punished by law, but smacked repeatedly in the face for like an hour. An adult getting invested in the social drama of teenage girls is really, really pathetic, especially if she's trying to cause harm. It shouldn't be illegal, but it should be retarded. Which it is.
It's not funny either way, but if she wasn't suffering from a real mental illness, it's more stupid than saddening IMO.With these powers united, they will summon Captain Don'tBeAnHeroFag!!!
