just realize that with the 1st one being black, you have .5 chance of it being a space. so you have 51 cards left to pick from, and 50% shot at 13 spades and 50% shot at 12 spades... aka, 12.5/51. simple as that. i guess it probably is Bayes theory, just done in my head, but it's fairly straightforward and intuitive.

I understand that you can also use a symmetry argument -- I just like Bayes rule lol
