I still say that all this arguing is pretty pointless. We won't know which is better until a long while after they both come out, so we're really wasting our time here.
What I'm doing is to convince people to buy DS, bash the PSP. What Sony is basically doing is to start from scratch, trial and error. I might buy the successor to the PSP; they will learn more the next time Sony makes another portable. And can possibly put an end to Nintendo's "lock" to the handheld gaming.
You cannot possibly have a room any better than this.
first of all, these aren't mini-discs...these are ultra mini-discs, or something...so we don't know how well the will work (i.e. if you turn it upside down)...but i can tell ya right now that they will skip if they get scratched...and who knows if they will be easily resurfaced or not? (i haven't seen a good picture of one yet to know if they will work with most industrial resurfacing machines)...next...jewpin will be right by saying it's a portable entertainment system, IF they were to make a flash drive adapter or something to that extent...where you could save DVD's onto your computer and then transfer them to the 'memory stick'...that would make sense...making us by new discs of CDs we already own, and new discs for DVD's we already own will not really qualifty it as a portable entertainment system...it will qualify it as a portable pain in the ass

First of all..
Nintendo 64..
cartridges.. held less information and the cartridges cost more..
I'm guessing it'll be the same here..
I don't understand the argument.. Sony hasn't done handheld before so I won't get it..
They never did consoles before but guess what? Sony playstation was a big hit. That says.. a lot..
But also the battery life.. anyone here who is pro Nintendo DS keeps saying it's 2.5 hours.. I've heard it can be anywhere from 2.5 hours to 10 hours.. but they'll most likely work to make it more.. THERE IS NO FACT RIGHT NOW..
Oh yeah.. and the Xbox has built in hardrive which can save games on. But I have to lug my Xbox over to a friend's house, which he already has an xbox, when I want to play a game with my saved game. It's different now because they're portable systems but it's still basically the same thing.
Turning the system upside down with a UMD in it will do nothing. -.-
I'm guessing that a lot of you have never seen a mini-disc. It's not a disc at all. It's like a floppy disc in that the disc is there inside a plastic case. They don't get scratched ever because the plastic protects them. They're just as sturdy as a cartridge but don't have the problem of the connectors getting dusty or worn down. Only real drawback is that there are more moving parts, but if they aren't terribly shitty they won't break very often.
I'll try and see if my sister still has her MD player or at least a few MDs so I can take a picture and show you guys what they look like. They're pretty cool, and I think they'll work just fine in a portable device. Besides, how often are you gonna turn your PSP upside down while you're playing it? Honestly, I think you guys are just finding reasons to hate one or the other. I don't really know much about either, so I can't make a judgement.
I'll wait till they come out and have them on display at Best Buy or something. Then I'll go and play on both, look at what games are available for both, compare prices of the system AND the game, and then I'll decide. Then again, that's how I always decide on systems. Always try before you buy
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
I just feel I have to add another fact: Nintendo DS is NOT the successor of the Game Boy series. I wish I have the source, but I've seen it from at least five web sites.
You cannot possibly have a room any better than this.
dmleet is correct, they are being developed seperately...of course DS will be backward compatable, so if ya have that then you're all set...battery life, from what i've seen, sony claims (although they have a history of lieing about specs) that while playing games it will be 10 hours, while playing music around 8, and while watching movies around 2.5....and i was wrong, i thought the UMD's would be like gamecube's minidiscs...they aren't, they are like what evilbutterfly was describing...so that gets rid of scratching problems, but not problems with the optical disc drives...which is the most frequent problem with disc reading systems...i'd be surprised if it actually delivers 10 hours of gameplay, which doesn't make sense to me...only 2.5 for movies, and 10 for games? of course seeing as it's a disc, be prepared for loading times...i guess this is something console gamers have gotten used to, but has always bugged the piss outta me...also, the PSP will have a usb port...meaning you should be able to load movies/music and such...which peaks me a bit more...i probably won't buy psp unless it comes out and just blows everyone's mind...i don't have 300 bones to spend...if they release it for 150, maybe...i'll just make sure to wait 3 months to see if it won't crap out on me after 5 car trips...DS...still on the fence.

I guessing that the PSP is going to be like the iPod in a sense. Expensive...but definently worth it, and it will have a fairly good battery life.
That is just what I am guessing.
A lot of you people seem to think that the PSP will break with in a week, well You all seem to forget that the designers at Sony are completely retarded. And besides, if you are someone who doesnt have the motorskillz to hold onto anything for an extended period of time without dropping it, then maybe you should be using a system that is targeted towards children whom also have underdevoloped motorskillz.
Nintendo DS seems to be just gaming..
while
Sony PSP is a little more than gaming.. (music/movies and such)
If the Sony PSP doesn't deliver in the other areas then I just have to check out what games are available and price and etc.. It's just.. right now.. I'm leaning towards the PSP..
I'm just hoping the PSP can combine all my shitty handheld crap together.. CD players.. MP3 players.. etc..
i have a question, this isn't exactly on topic, but it is something that's been brought up in this thread a few times...if it's so much cheaper to make games on discs (people claim it's a 'fraction of the cost', then why were N64 and playstation games priced the same? it just seems to me that if discs cost so much less, then they should be priced less off the shelf

Economics. If all the games for one console were $10 more, nobody would want to get that console unless they had plenty of money to blow on games.

exactly...so why don't the disc systems just lower their game prices by 10 dollars, hence either making cartridges cost more, or causing them some serious money problems?
