It is a default value. That's just how you know you are not within the top 150,000 players. Synth originally had it as something else I believe. Maybe the way he encoded it causes all those who aren't in 150,000 show up as 1. Which is funny because the true number 1 (Jimerax) might be seen as a newb by those who know this rule but not Jimerax :P

Oh, can the sig stop working after you've gotten it once, like if more people beat your score and bump you further down the list?

If you were 150,000 and stopped playing only to have someone else pass you I would assume that you could lose signature privileges. Not to worry, once you get the signature you'll either be in the upper 5-digits or lower 6-digits (ie 75,000-125,000)

Start looking around at people's sigs for numbers close to 150,000 or at least 5 digits long to see what they needed to get there. Me, I've played 2,500ish songs and have almost 900,000,000 points at the time of this post and I'm 29th place. It's decent.
