    profile votes are kinda pointless

    i mean, they would be cool, if....and only if people actually voted on if your profile actually looks good or not...

    as of now, profile votes are kinda just like, hey give me one, cause i gave you one, and im whoring to get to number 1 profile votes ;D

    I stopped giving people votes if they vote for me, unless i know them.

    main profile vote whores i can think of right now...they are pretty much ALWAYS on the front page...or commenting in someone's profile "hey, i voted for you, hope you can do the same"

                i disagree... i only vote if i like the profile. votewhoring is fine, but who cares really. its only what some poeple choose to do.

                                    I have 40+ profile votes, and I am not known as a good FFR player, a tokentard, or even a regular. I am a nobody, yet profile vote whores vote me up (Unless I vote them down cause they're being disrespectful to others.)

                                            any traffic =! good traffic.

                                            So it's good to build traffic off of profile whores who end up doing nothing but taking up bandwidth and raising your costs? The idea of profile votes is a perfectly sound one, but the reality is that it really doesn't end up contributing anything and ends up making you guys pay for it. damanwithdaskillz (however you spell it) is the type of person who would thrive off of this sort of system, not a genuine contributor or part of the community. All I've seen is him talking about either tokens, or how important this or that makes him. Your goal is to make him feel more important? All it does is annoy the rest of us, as far as I can tell.

                                            There's always a problem when incentive is added for doing something. A good example is spamming for gold on Gaia (which is most of the site's traffic, like it or not), or spamming on IGN to get more pretty stars next to your name. It's a good thing we don't have incentives for higher post count or posting higher volume, or you'd see the volume of the posts rise and the quality rapidly decrease. With the profile votes, it's not genuinely increasing activity, it's just adding kb to your bill. It shows up in increased numbers, but not in the community. In the MySpace context, there's nothing more dislikable than a friend-whore.

                                            Look at my profile, I've done a lot with it. I spent time in Photoshop making a nice banner that matched my avatar, and used the exact hexadecimals from my image for the profile background colors. And do you see me going and voting everybody's profile up and down and commenting asking for a reciprocal vote (because I did it for you, not because you like my profile) or telling you how nice your profile is and what a desirable and interesting person you are (despite not knowing you, and only for the purpose of tempting you into giving me another profile vote)?

                                            There are many other ways to critique profiles, including contests. Another thing that could be done is have a meter from 1-100 that starts out at 50 and depending upon ratio of good to bad votes goes up or down, instead of showing a total number that people keep trying to spam up.

                                            I know it's apparently not my place to say this, but you can't say that I should shut up because it's free, since I subscribe and genuinely wish to help improve the site.
