I don't think freezes are necessary. I think the biggest problems that need to be addressed are 1. av misses and other lag related miss issues like framers and jacks ect 2. scoring system 3. fps boost (which would probably help with #1 D
I'm hoping for an FPS boost, that's for sure. Ditching combo scoring would be smart. Dance point style scoring is the most effective IMO and *gasp* it wouldn't be like sm style machine score either. Obviously dealing with the problems with the engine that cause av misses and framer misses among other things are tough to work out but would improve the quality of ffr exponentially.
It's funny to read this thread and all the controversy of it's topics. You'd think, with 1.36 million members, Synth would be inclined to give a detailed report of the progress of 3rd style himself, which included a proposed release date, in a front page news post. *only about 400,000 of those I'd guess really wonder about 3rd style and about 2,500 really strive for it ;D* But what do I know, I'm not an admin so I can't torture the members about it's release. I'M ONE THAT IS GETTING TORTURED DAMMIT! Please out of the mercy from your heart, Synth, Scott, LD, Char, or Tass, Xelius too, PLEASE PLEASE give everyone an idea about 3rd style's progress. Detailed too preferably, no joke 2 word answers or false dates. I would like to see a specific date in the format of XX/XX/XXXX and the progress, listing out each feature and such, given they are not classified and I know that not ALL features are classified. If it suits your guys secretive needs, imply what the features are then. Sheesh, apparently we all ask too much of the admins in this project to give us an update on it.
Hmm...perhaps jack syndrome can be fixed. The current system gives priority to the timing windows of the second arrow of a jack - the more recently spawned arrow. However, what about assigning a numerical tag to every arrow in a song? The first arrow is marked 1, the second marked 2, and so forth. Then create an argument: "If a keypress at this frame would activate two arrows, the arrow with the lesser numerical tag is activated". This would give priority to the first arrow of a jack. Probably way easier said than done, but it appears to make sense.

That's a very unique way of fixing the jack syndrome BDN. I haven't head that one before. I personally think it makes perfect sense and should be implemented if it turns out to be the best solution. Props on that one. Certainly fixing the jack problem in FFR would make it far more fun and better to play, especially for the new people to the game that haven't learned to jack on a frame by frame level like the more seniorized players of the game.
I don't really know anything about Third Style. I just found out about it today.. but there shouldn't be holds imo. FFR shouldn't become a clone of SM with extra features.. =\
