Not if it were near-impossible to get at all without it.

I'm not sure how it would be determined, but something would have to determine it(as in, something kids can't get, but adults can, but not something like an ID or a credit card or other personally ID-able stuff).

I'd say 18+ or parental consent.

A lot of parents know it's gonna happen anyway. Some will be reasonable enough to do it IF THEY THINK THEIR KID IS READY.

But as long as it's this openly available, no one's going to really ask their parents.

Okay, I'll try to promote some discussion here:

Parental paranoia doesn't help. Disallowing kids to look at pornographic stuff seems to be the moral and rational thing to do, but it truly isn't. Let your kids learn and experiment small-time before curiosity drives them to stupidly have sex. Most kids need to stimulate their sex drives, just like some kids need to stimulate their craving for violence via video games (crime rate drop since the arrival of the PS, anyone?) and rid their stress via punching a pillow or something like that. This method of stimulation is not and has never been uncommon and it lets things slowly come out until they are grown out of instead of keeping them bottled up.

So why aren't kids going crazy despite this parental drawback? Simple: kids already have easy access to porn and frequently access it. But allowing kids to watch porn promotes sexual security. Seriously, I don't think I've ever been comfortable talking about anything related to girls or sex to anyone, especially my parents. I just pulled the "yeah mom I haven't hit puberty don't talk to me about that stuff" act until I was at the age where that just wouldn't work. Then I just made it clear I didn't want to talk about that. I was too insecure because I was not in an environment where I felt that I could talk about that without getting in trouble or being stupid. Allowing kids to watch porn is quite possibly the easiest way to promote this. Nothing speaks louder than giving your kid a PlayBoy.

It'd be a lot easier to talk about of parents didn't make it seem like this terrible and awful thing that will ruin lives and make people think less of women, or whatever those stereotypes say. In fact, it'd probably be easier to talk about than saying to your parents something like "hey, I like this girl at school" or something along those lines if it were viewed as being a positive thing rather than a negative.

Will it hurt SOME people? Well yeah, but under this ruling, it'd only be to the fault of the parents.

If you restrain people, especially kids, to do something, chances are they'll want to do it even more.

All of my friends that don't drink (or at least not irresponsably) have their parents let them take alcohol if they wish, without restraining them (maybe on the quantity, but actually not that much). I think it's the same with sex.

Restraining will, for the most part, make the kids want to grow up. To be more responsible, even if it's just to get what they want. It'll be more helpful in the end, and there's really no way to make anything perfect. Personally, I think this would be the most reasonable way to do things.

Haha, not at all, actually. Imagine being imprisonned. It only makes you want to be free, doesn't it? Well it's the same for sex (and alcohol), only on a smaller scale.

Generally, people who want it THAT badly are usually ready*. Most people, however, first find it out of curiosity when they aren't ready most of the time.

*There are exceptions to everything. I'm sure you've known someone really immature who would always brag about sex. But that doesn't mean we should restrict EVERYONE.

And hey, nothing's perfect. But this will be awfully effective.

The problem I see, devonin, is that different people respond to different stimuli. I've seen a Law & Order SVU episode that made me think about something: Some people are more prone to responding to certain stimuli than others. If a child porn fantasy site is being viewed by a repeat child molester, then the stimuli received from that site may cause the sexual offender, whether he's trying to deny the urges or not, to respond by trying to fulfill the fantasy. However, somebody else might not respond in such a manner. It's impossible to remove every single offending stimulus from the world. You'd end up with a world like Equilibrium or some other science fiction idea. Hell, the fact that you and I or another person might have different levels of intelligence (referring to Harrison Bergeron here) might have some sort of stimulus on those with more or less of it. I realize that this is taking things a bit out of proportion, but the truth remains the same in this case.

Now, on topic, this entire issue comes down to personal choice.
If you feel that pornography is bad, then don't expose yourself to it.
However, don't think that if you have kids, they aren't going to find out about it.
If you think your kids should stay away from pornographic material, then talk to them about it! Be sane, and accepting of the fact that they are people, and not just your little slaves! =P Explain your reasons for disliking porn, and be ready for some really weird questions from them.

And on the off chance that they look it up anyway, get over it! Kids are curious, and BLAMming the sites with firewalls will just make them more careful about making sure you don't find out.

A little sanity and decency goes a loooong way.

Erm, whoever deleted it, please undelete my post or at least tell me why my post was deleted. I thought it was pretty informative. There's such a large number of mods who could've done it that I can't even think of all of the ones and PM each of them.
