These song should always be there. They are unique and are part of FFR history. There is no reson why they should be re-stepped because even if they have some "error" in them you only have to concantre yourself and hit the notes, that not too hard...

You can't actually hit all the notes in Chrono Trigger.

Proof.

You can see sash hit all the visible arrows in the jacks. But there are arrows which are in the same spot which are completely impossible to hit, and these go calmly past, without a care in the world. Just there to make you shake in anger every time you see them.

I have been patient in increasing my average rank for around 8/10 of all the crappy files -- I've probably AAA'd about half of them. Yet, I still think it would be better if we re-stepped these songs and took them out of the game.

You cannot make people feel what people have felt in the past. Sure they can experience the same things, but they will never be able to experience the same things in the same contexts. There are too many variables in human existence for this to be true. Keeping the songs from the old era might be a little bit interesting for some people, but it cannot rekindle the exact same feelings that those in the past have felt. You're not preserving old experiences, you're creating new ones.

The game could do with fewer songs. We have what, 250? 300? More on the way? Who's going to play all these? Who's going to patiently go through their average rank and look at each of the for ranks 300+ songs to see which ones he can decrease? Why not just stop adding songs and take out those which don't really help FFR at all?

I agree but its still not impossible to PFC them. If you really want your average rank to go down, you need to suck it up and just play it. Why the hell does everyone hate 100BB? Its such an easy aaa, there's two hard parts that dont even last for a second, holy ****. Taking them off the lvlrank list would be a slap in the face for everyone that didnt whine like babies, and that took the time to actually give them a chance and just play them like any other file.

I hardly think saying "Well, we've really improved standards, and made all of the files much more synced, and much more centred around your actual skill corresponding to how you play, so lets either fix up, or remove all of the old stuff from the site's youth" is a -slap in the face- to anybody.

I can understand not wanting to delete them, but really, as the site exists longer and longer, and more new people show up who don't understand the transition, more and more people will be left thinking "Why is all this crap in here"

I mean, the options are a) Re-step the old out of sync stuff, b) Move the old out of sync stuff to a seperate "old stuff" genre and have it not count in the stats, or c) Constantly be having this thread and this discussion forever as more new people show up and have no idea why all of the poorly stepped files are still here.

Put them in an old songs genre and remove the ones that have glitched or messed up notes from the level ranks. There are some older songs that are out of sync but are still easily playable with a little concentration. Just get rid of the songs with notes like in 100BB or FF7 and certainly Chrono.

Only offsync as HELL ones.

There's nothing wrong with stuff like Molto or CIA Rave, or even BtC/Salad for your Tuesday and stuff like that. Only songs like 100 BB and TfB would be in the "old stuff" genre.

Im in total agreeance that there should be an old stuff genre.

I however still don't understand why certain songs can't be note skinned. Didnt they do it with contra-distinction way back when, but then just stopped? I never got an explanation about why one of my favorite songs of the time (CIA Rave) never got re-skinned.

Is it a because of this "history" thing that synth wants to keep?

note: I may be wrong about contra-distinction. My memory is telling me it was a re-done file, but it might have been just a new file all together.

But back on topic. The idea of a history genre seems to be an idea many people agree with. the main question is, will the songs in the history genre account to lvl rank?

Pros: Makes it so those of us who havent AAA'd 100BB and the like can have our lvl ranks survive and just play the songs for lulz when we start getting sick of the hard songs.

Cons: Makes it so those who DID go through the agony and torture of AAA'ing those songs get a AAA taken from their lvlrank, which can be a HUGE blow (at least 4 or 5 to the rank, which when you are at a really low level can really kick your ass)
