I'm starting to think that this may be a HUGE dissapointment for all the people looking forward to it.
With the way everyone is talking about it, it may be nothing more than an amped up version of the first one. If that's the case, people simply won't grasp on to it like they have with WoW.
Starcraft needs something that will compete with WoW for it to gain any kind of popularity at all. Because if it's the same gameplay as before, which is where a lot of rumors are pointing at so far, it's just simply not going to be worth the effort to play.

Well, I've been waiting for a really long time for Starcraft II to come out just to find out what's next in the story line. There is quite a bit of fans just like me out there so we're already pleased with the game, no matter what story it gives us.
There's also the Blizzard fans, who's just going to buy the game because Blizzard made it and to them, it's good regardless of what it actually is. Plus, who doesn't have all the Blizzard games once they buy one?
Finally, there are the fans who will say the Starcraft world sucks and continue playing WoW.
All in all, WoW has competition, a lot of people want to buy it just for the sake of the story, many more are just going to buy it for the sake of buying it.
Anyways, I'm waiting for Strarcraft II and the Fire Emblem game on the Wii.

In some aspects you're right. There will be a lot of people that will buy it simply just to have it or to see the new storyline. I for one will probably buy it just to have it.
But all in all, I very seriously doubt that enough people will do that to pose much of a threat to WoW, so really if it stay with the same generic kind of gameplay, WoW will not have competition....Atleast not on any large scale.
