I've seen multiple mods and experienced members (Mostly VGDC) that are clear and are being generally nice, and the member goes buckwild.

Well, first off, they didn't need to sign up for the connection. Their parents did. Second off, dictionary.com defines illiteracy as the lack of the ability to read and write properly, not the absence of it. Third off, you've done a bit of unecessary nitpicking from what I've seen. Just about everyone who posted in this thread have no problems with the list, or if they have problems, they're not that big of a deal.
