The real secret is try not to play by methods everyone else has given you, but find your own way to play that helps you learn how to get better. Screenshrink is an often reccommended approach, but I found that playing normally for a while, and slowly screenshrinking as I got better got me farther than anything.
Also, learn to play two handed.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LEARN TO PLAY TWO HANDED.
Or you'll end up like me. Suffering because you can't hit jacks worth a damn.
OOO Screenshrinking is when you drag the bottom of your Internet Explorer/Mozilla/Whatever window through some percentage of the FFR_the_Game area (where the magical arrows fly). I think that most people cut about half of the screen off and it looks something like this:
But what it does is trick your brain into thinking that the arrows are moving faster because you have less time to react, it kind of feels like you are using a speed mod like on Stepmania. But the amount that is cut off is different for everybody and may or may not help you. Personally it drastically improved my game, i cut it off to where you can only see the challenge button. Overall, just try it, it'll probably help you too.
