Not because some Asians are being stupidly called "Japanese", but because Asians were called "orientals".
I am 100% serious, by the way. Oriental is incredibly offensive to call a person.

Yes, some Japanese identify with Asia, but many others see Japan as separate from Asia, like me.
Yes, "Oriental" is an offensive term, and the term "Asians" usually refer to the people of Far East Asia (Korea, China, and the entire South East Asia),
even though the Middle East, Russia and India are part of the Asian continent.
No idea about you, but I can tell difference between chinese, korean , japanese. Not always but roughly 80% of the time, because there is a difference, I can also easily tell russians and people from slovenian countries apart even though they are as white as you can be, just being raised in certain culture affects how your facial features look in a very slight way but if you have been around long enough you can tell right away. Same thing with Asian people.
