A grandmother, a mother and a daughter walk into a room. None of them leave but there are only 2 people in the room. How is this possible?

Only the grandmother and daughter are there. Since the daughter exists, the grandmother must also be a mother, so that takes care of all 3.

Lastly, a story problem...

Fred commited a heinous crime in the kingdom of Kilimal. Before his execution, however, Fred was summoned to the throne room of the King. When he arrived there, Fred fell to his knees and begged for mercy. The King responded, "Woah there! I really am not a bad person, and, being of sound and conscious mind, I cannot execute a man unless he has a chance to save himself." The King clapped twice, and 2 men came into the throne room. One was holding 2 big bowls, the other a bag. The King explains to Fred:

"You see before you 2 bowls and a bag. The contents of the bag are 100 balls; 50 white, 50 black. At the end of this explanation, you are to divide the balls however you like amongst the bowls, but each bowl must contain at least one ball. After you have accomplished this, you will be blind-folded, asked to leave the room, then come back in after the bowls have been shuffled. On my command, you are to clearly shout either "left!" or "right!", your response being the bowl from which you will choose your ball. If you choose white, you are free to go. But if you choose black, or an empty bowl, may God have mercy on your soul. You have my word as an honorable ruler that this will not be rigged or cheated upon in anyway. Now begin!"

The question: How do you divide the balls to give yourself the best chance of leaving Kilimal with your head intact?

I think the answer to that one is...
Fred thought about it long and hard. He put one white in one bowl, and the rest in the other, optimizing his chances (~50%)
Then he throws the marbles at the guard and escapes or something.

Fred puts one white ball in one and the rest in the other. There are 2 bowls, so his total chances are (1 + 49/99)/2 = 75%(approx).

Still need some answers to the 1st two! Quick recap:

Divide $77 (in whole $ increments) into a number of bags so that I can ask for any amount between $1 and $77, and you can give me the proper amount by giving me a certain number of these bags without opening them. What is the minimum number of bags you will require?

I'm thinking 7 bags, what if you do 1,2,4,8,16,32...64

1,2,4,8 gives you any numbers 1-15. Add the 16 to give all numbers 1-31. Add the 32 to get all numbers 1-63. 64 completes it.

You could do it with 10 bags easily. It might be possible to use less bags; I'm not sure.

Put 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 in a bag. Put 32 in the last bag. Self explanitory.

I don't think you can do it with 9 bags. You probably can, but I don't feel like putting any effort into this XD But, the sum of 1-8 is only 36, and the last bag would require 41 so you wouldn't be able to give 37-40.

It became obvious once I realized you only needed 1,2,4 and 8 to give sum to any number 1-15.
