    Re: The Riddle Thread

Here's a problem (it's easy for me to solve, but maybe that's because I minored in math). I borrowed this one from MindTrap.

If you were given a can of cola that was 97% caffeine-free (relative to a normal can of cola), how many cans of cola would you have to drink to consume the same amount of caffeine in a regular cola?

Note: there's a clever trick you can use here to make the calculation easy. (And you don’t need to have minored in math to figure it out.)

33 and 1/3 unless I am forgetting something. (Which could easily be true....)

No, you got it right. The trick is to remember the 97% caffeine-free cola has 3% caffeine (relative to regular cola). To find out how many cans will equal 100%, just take 100 divided by 3, which equals 33 and 1/3. Quick check: 33 and 1/3 times 3% equals 100%.

              Kathy Lee Gifford?

Like Pichu_XP though, my guess would be some kind of drupe (a fleshy fruit with a hard inner layer covering the seed). A cherry is the first thing that comes to mind.

You got it! It's a cherry. Nicely done.

                One more comes to mind:

What is yours, yet others use it more than you do?

                    Your name.

Others call you by your name, but you usually refer to yourself as "I", "Me", etc.

                      Yup ^^ (to Fox tails)

                      Alright, I remember another:

He who makes me has no need of me. He who buys me has no use for me. What am I?

This one I just looked up online:

A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50." The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less. In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

Yup! I'm out of them for now, other than getting more off the internet, which is kind of like cheating. I'm sure I'll remember more.

I've got a math problem, however! It's both harder and easier than it should be -.-

                                [the square root of X^2] - X = 6

If anybody has a better way to write that, let me know.
