I am too. This is my thread, but created for the people.
Then again, I also disagree with it as well. Both sides in my perspective kinda have points, I guess I'll have to look it over again and either keep it or implement something that includes something like the bonus points.
Also, this isn't just my thread. Half of these ideas would not be here if it wasn't for suggestions or comments. Jim and Jammer contributed as much as I did to this, so I do not have complete control over what will happen, well at least I do not want to.
Umm an even wiser decision, how about post what you feel about the bonus points:
Keep them or get rid of them, and why.

Keep them:
-AAAing easy stuff/offbeat stuff is just as much of a skill as insane scores on harder stuff and should be rewarded
-Good average rank shows you care
-Rewards those who try for those aspects
-Indicator of overall skill
-Includes every song in this ranking, not just the 50whatever chosen to have requirements

Keep them... you can't be a "top player" unless you play all the songs. You can't be a god of Halo if you only know half of the boards. Gotta know EVERY level.

Possibly only keep 1 of the 2 bonus systems... EITHER the AAAs or the Average Rank, since to a large degree, they measure the same thing. Having them both is either a double reward or double punishment... check people's bonus points. I'm willing to bet that MOST people are a similar amount of points for both... since you can't have a low Ave Rang without having a lot of AAAs. I only have an ave rank under 30 because i have 80+ AAAs... if i only have 60, i'd likely be in the 30s (possibly 40s). they go hand in hand.

Well that can also work the other way as well, I am quite sure many people have not even played yet alone tried to do about 20+ of the beginner songs, which will absolutely destroy someone's average.
The probelm with keeping them is if we do consider and put a reward for having AAA'd easier songs is that it totally defeats the purpose of even making a ranking system off of a list of songs that were chosen specifically for being rated above a 4 on the scale. If we stress giving too many extra points it's simply adding extra points, which should create a list the is similiar to what it would be without it.
But then again, it does create something different and isn't too stressed, it's not like we are saying you get 50 points for having over 100 AAA's.

If it's not too late, I say keep the bonus points, it shows the players' skills on every aspect of the game and every level, same as Tass said.

Maybe it'd be better if you give less bonus points out. Instead of a 3 point difference per 10 AAA's, make it 1, so the most we could gain would be near 20

In my opinion Average Rank should be taken off, but # of AAAs is still worth something.

[#of AAAs]
- shows your overall PA skill, and is definitely stable once you get.
- not hard to count, since it basically means the # of Rank 1 score.
- It won't change like your best scores, even if other people get better or you miss some new songs.
- every good people have chance to get points for this.

[Average Rank]
- shows how good you are at ALL songs.
- shown on levelrank.php, and we can easily find.
- If you don't improve scores, it will be getting worse day and day.
- If you haven't played ALL songs at the time, AR will get incredibly bad. and it will easily happen when you miss new songs.
- people who don't want to keep playing ALL songs won't get this point.

and yea... definitely keep it, in at least some form. as it is, the MOST you can get between ave and aaas is 30, whereas you can get like 300 points for the other stuff... so it is in the range of 10% of the overall weight, which is nothing when you consider it.

and scottish... that was my point. someone who hasn't played 20 beginner songs is getting punished double, currently. getting punished for not having the AAAs and getting punished for not having the rank. both because of those songs.... same way i'm rewarded double.

i'd say either keep it as it is, because the weight of the bonus is only a fraction of the weight of the main songs... or tweak it so that you are only given a bonus for AAAs (since AAAs are more likely from songs NOT on the list, whereas Ave Rank will give a stronger weight to both songs not on the list AND songs on the list).

PS - add back in P4U, damnit! but tweak it slightly, since currently it doesn't have a 5 point value (AND... the 4 point value is way too difficult to get, given that I'm ranked 10th and am 1 good off from the mark).


EDIT: lol, Jimerax ninja'd me and said the same thing about keeping AAAs while ditching Ave Rank. To add to that though, I'd change the value... make the max 20 points instead of 15, and adjust the rest accordingly.

What I meant was give less points out per range of number of AAA's

Right now it's 2,4,6,8,10,12,15 bonus points every range of AAA's.

I'm suggesting to change it to 1 point every 10 AAA's, so the list would look like:
100+AAA's: Add 7 extra points to your total.
90-99 AAA's: Add 6 extra points to your total.
80-89 AAA's: Add 5 extra points to your total.
70-79 AAA's: Add 4 extra points to your total.
60-69 AAA's: Add 3 extra points to your total.
50-59 AAA's: Add 2 extra points to your total.
40-49 AAA's: Add 1 extra points to your total.

So basically cut the point values in half.

Bonus points for AAA's and average rank should be kept.

Average Rank bonus points encourage players to keep participating actively. otherwise, their AR will slip drastically. it also encourages top players to master most of the songs, including the easy and offbeat ones.

A high number of AAA's shows a high level of concentration and accuracy, something needed at the upper level. even though this is tedious for some off-beat songs, top players should be able to overcome this.

plus, they are only about 10% of most people's points

SDG = 9 or less. That's why it's called Single Digit Goods. (exception is songs with max scores including X number of goods.

levelrank should stay because it makes EVERY song worth having a good score on so I believe it shows skill more

I'm playing FFR again. Right now I'm going through and playing the songs I either haven't played or don't have a decent score on, so this could cause a shakeup in the standings. Wait and see :O
