Runescape involves all of its versions. Runescape 2 was based off of Runescape Classic. All its stats and items came through from classic to 2.

I've not played runescape in like a month. But I have a lvl 83 combat and total lvl 890 f2p. Name Konoho check high scores. I started in summer '05, but stopped in August because I was without internet for a year. I started again in September '06. So i've been playing a total of like 4 months.

Actually, there WAS a beta version. Chances are, it went into beta in 1999, and then got fully released in 2001. But that's just me.
