Re: The Riddle Thread

Doctor is his mother.

Just to reiterate my puzzle (which didn't get the answer I wanted). You have four toothpicks arranged in a plus sign. Move one toothpick to make a square.

Re: The Riddle Thread

Technically, no. But it does make sense. There is another answer though.

What if I said toothpicks?

Re: AP Statistics

Statistics was easy for me (got a 5 on the AP Exam). However, I took it in 8th grade. Most kids in my class struggled with it, so I wouldn't recommend it if you didn't need to take it. There isn't a...

Re: The Riddle Thread

x is negative 3.

You have four pencils of the same length arranged so it looks like a plus sign. (otherwise known as + ).

Moving only one pencil, make a square.

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Now that's just irrelevant. An apple cannot be a percentage of something else because it is an object that exists in a certain state. If an apple is larger or smaller than another apple, that makes...

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Okay, Infinity - infinity != 0. (!= means not equal to).

Since infinity is not a value, we must use calculus. Take the examples:

lim (x->inf) e^x-x = infinity.

lim(x->inf) x-e^x = -infinity....

Re: Turning back time

First of all, are you assuming that there would be two of you if you turned back time? If there were, what would the new "you" look like? If there weren't, what would you know? Would everyone...

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

It depends on the base that the other civilization uses. If they use base 10, we should have the same number. Otherwise, the number should be the same, just represented in whatever base they have,...

I meant proof that the escape velocity of a black hole is at least five times the speed of light.

Re: Turning back time

In fact, you brought this upon yourself. You have been writing useless crap about claiming that the escape velocity of a black hole could be twice that, in fact where it could be. Let's take the IVT...

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Statements that can't be proven but are true are also called postulates, so 1+1=2 is a postulate. It is "obvious", yet it cannot be "proven". It's just like saying that there can only exists one line...

Re: Turning back time

Did you read my statement?

If that is false, then the escape velocity must be less than the speed of light, so technically light cannot escape a black hole, yet it can't escape it....

Re: Turning back time

Since light cannot escape black holes (which has been "proven" according to the observations of black holes indirectly), the escape velocity of a black hole is at least the speed of light. From...

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Isn't that a bad analogy? By saying that infinity - infinity can be anything - anything, you basically equate infinity to anything, which is false.

Subtracting infinity from infinity yields a...

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

If you read my post, you'd see that L'Hôpital's rule tells you how to deal with indeterminate limits. Actually, he didn't do any of the work, if memory serves me right.

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Integrals (definite) are solved using the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

Integrals...

Re: Saddam's Execution

So basically we're here because we said something that wasn't accepted, so we invaded on another topic, which led to a dead end, so now we've practically taken control of Iraq. So much for democracy.

Re: Infinity * Zero = Any Number ARGUE HERE

Calculus defines that Infinity * 0 can equal anything. Consider the following:

We have a function f(x) and we want to find the area under f(x) from x=a to x=b. (It's known as the integral). If we...
