Imo, once you take on the responsibility of bringing a life into the world, you've taken on the responsibility of ensuring that they grow up well-equipped and prepared to support themselves in life. Be that knowledge, advice, quality of life, etc etc.
I really wish I wasn't about to head out the door to class, this thread might have potential.

This pretty much sums it up, minus one point I think children need. Some sort of "love." I dislike the word, so damn vague, but I think you all get the point. Your children need to know you care about them, but don't necessarily trust them to always make the right decisions, and that you will punish them for doing something that's wrong.Comment

You should recognize that they are human and treat them accordingly, and attend to their basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing and medical. Anything else is technically going to be supererogatory.Comment
