[Album] The Royal Sampler Vol 1

    EDIT:

Hey everybody! I've decided to throw up a digital version of myself and DJ MesoPhunk's album The Royal Sampler Vol. 1! You can grab individual tracks for $0.99 or the whole thing for $5.99. If you didn't grab a physical copy before, grab the digital one!

    ----------------

So, me and my friend DJ MesoPhunk are going to be going to Acen 2011 this year, and we decided to just make an album to sell there. So even though we started too late and had to rush stuff, it turned out amazingly.
Its only going to be a 100 cd run, no more, no less. We are saving a small bunch (depending on how many people show interest), and then taking the rest to try and sell at Acen.

If anybody here wants one, the price is $15 USD, + any shipping that might incur. (Unless you will be at acen, at which point you can grab one there at the MyDJSoBad table)

You can hear previews for all the tracks here:
    Genres: UK Hardcore, Funkot, Trance

Cool songs. Can't say I'm a big fan of the album art though.

I hope this art isn't final. It's such a downgrade compared to the music.

Re: [Album] The Royal Sampler Vol 1

Warning, I'm turning on my uber-harsh UK Hardcore critique here. If you can't handle criticism, stop reading now. I do it because I care <3

            That being said...

In a nutshell, the tracks that you did on the album either feel A. Generic, or B. Under-produced. However, rather than carpet bombing you with that blunt statement, allow me to go into the details...

            Coming Home
Arguably the best produced track on here, but just sounds... well, done before. You've got the vocal line with the piano melody, the gradual synth lead in, the breakbeat into the main chorus, it's all so very predictable. Part of composing in general is adding your own spin on things and staying one step ahead of the listener. Yes, you made a decent UK Hardcore track, but it does nothing to add to the genre itself. However, if that's your goal, don't let me stop you. The drums are clear, the synths are fine, the bass is mixed well, but everything just feels like more of the usual.

            Feels Good Man
Arguably the most original thing you've put on this CD, but holy shit is it under-produced. The percussion feels flat (don't be afraid to put some reverb on it, bro), the offbeat bass feels empty, and the piano feels like it was thrown in there without any thought. It's not a full sounding mix at all, and the track suffers because of it. The vocal line is beatmatched well, but the overall mixing takes away from an overall good tune.

            All the Funk She Played
It's not really hardcore, so I can't say much about it. It doesn't sound good to me, but that's my own opinion.

            Crystal Dreams
Really, really, REALLY underproduced. The synths don't feel full at all and the entire thing sounds like it's coming out of laptop speakers.

I'm sorry to be a bit of an ass, man, but these are things that need to be said. Hardcore is about energy, driving melodies and hard basslines, not something lightly produced that's designed for you to meditate to. If your listener isn't nodding their head, humming your melody, or begging to listen to the song again by the time your track is over, then you've got some work to do.

Again, this is my own opinion as an avid listener of hardcore for nearly ten years now. If I didn't say it, someone else would have eventually.

I share the same opinion as everybody else in this thread with the album art.

Personally I don't believe that this music is worth $15. I'm sure that the work you all put into it is worth some cash to you, but nothing really jumped out at me as 'superb'.

Don't get me wrong, the music decent. I hate being harsh to musicians, but like Starshot said... it's all very bland. Reminds me of mainstream music.

Sorry. I hope you make lots of sales, and loads of people contradict what I've said!

fair enough. People have their oppinions. Ive gotten really good reviews from a bunch of people in the business of the same genres as well. So as usual, some people like, and others dont.

I know they are just previews... but I'm somewhat confused on how you can critique whole songs based on a super small sample of the track.

You'd be surprised. You always have to assume that the attention span of the listener is shorter than that of a chipmunk. You have to reel them in, fast.

I learned that one the hard way.

wtf did I just listen to?

I've played worse stuff at parties.

Personally, i'd put a heavier breakbeat for all the things she said, and really rock the shit out of that. That's how I feel as a whole, really. There's a lot of potential, but you took the easy way out of it so it just sounds all right.

I liked it, drums weren't 100% on the ball for me- but good enough. I'll give it another couple listens and get back to ya with some proper feedback when I can =3

That's how the genre works :S
Its called Funkot (talking about all the funk she played)
                          Here are some examples:

etc. Its a genre that came from indonesia. Indonesian Funky House is another name for it.

first 4 are uk hardcore, 2nd 4 are funkot, last 2 are some sort of trance.

also, I cant really tell the tone of your comment lol
