Big Bang Theory? Big Bang Theory.

Though I don't watch television while it's being aired (I watch downloaded shows in seasons at time), I consider The Big Bang Theory to be the best sitcom on the air. The humor is witty and tends to weed out any and all stupid jokes you'd be drowning in while watching almost any other sitcom. Discuss.

Absolutely LOVE this show. I do agree with it being one of the top shows on the air. It's its own kind of show (in sense of what it is) and keeps me laughing. A+ will always watch.

A lot of people like Kings of Queens and whatever else, but it's just doesn't do it for me. When I hear a joke, I like to think about it before it becomes apparent. In that sense, comedic timing is always there. For that reason, I often listen to Bo Burnham or watch Demetri Martin.

Just remembered... i think Demetri Martin will soon get his own show on CBS as well.

And for anyone too witless, there's a laugh track for their convenience. I'm legitimately amazed at how many scientific jokes most people that I know don't understand in this show, yet they laugh because of the audience laughter. To be frank, I don't think the show would survive if it didn't have accompanying laughter.

It's a fantastic show, and the writing is absolutely stellar, but I'll always be partial toward shows like 30 Rock that can pull off the laughs through pure delivery without the help of an audience. The Big Bang Theory has the comedic timing, but it's that irritating laughter that sets it slightly back.

On the side, I'm also irritated by the fact that the scheduling for this show has been so uneven for the past few months, with an episode or two here and there, followed by a week-long break, followed by a few more episodes, et cetera. CBS must realize how strong this show is because a typical serialized drama--such as the almighty Fringe, which has been abused by Fox --would not be able to survive on such a roller coaster.

Despite that, this show is still fabulous. I'm always willing to watch an episode if I see it on TV, and hopefully in the future none of the actors will take a shit on Chuck Lorre that results in a suspension of production or some damn thing.

Actually, I think most (if not all) of the more obscure jokes revolve around a scenario that can be laughed at in multiple ways, designed so one can still genuinely find something funny even if they don't fully understand the punchline. And I have no idea how much it's founded, but I'm getting the feeling that a lot of everyday comedy revolves around misunderstanding.

I'd rather watch a show that doesn't feel like it's not so... Dull.

One of the multiple ways, I've noticed, is based on being familiar with the characters and anticipating their actions. It has it's own brand of irony, and it is just as spontaneous. For instance, watching Sheldon try to take a shot of rum cracked me up, though that action isn't funny by itself. Soon after, he spit it all back into the shot glass...

Re: Big Bang Theory? Big Bang Theory.

One of my favorite shows...obviously. <_<

Being an astronomically huge nerd, or should I say, scientist, I don't think there are any jokes from the 4 seasons that have gone over my head. When understood, many of the jokes are absolutely brilliant and hilarious.

However, I know people that watch this show religiously that don't know an iota about what they're referencing and still laugh anyway. I've never understood it; thanks for the insight people.

Either way, I think a lot of the humor has been dropped down a level in the last two seasons, especially compared to the first one (Way more sex jokes, much less obscure references and jabs to scientific material). This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since I still enjoy the show, but I hope it keeps it's original charm.

Perhaps I'll look into it. How many seasons / episodes are there currently?

I don't know, to me the show is a like a person... and once you understand that just about every single joke is sarcasm or something intellectual it gets funny.

But when someone just jumps straight into its like this...

                            FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

4 seasons, 80 episodes [looked up on Wikipedia, last updated yesterday].

Luckily my dad and I have a bit of brains [we challenge each other watching Jeopardy sometimes] and the jokes don't go over our heads easily. If one of us doesn't get it though, usually the other one does. Unfortunately for my brother, he doesn't understand as many of the jokes so he lost interest easily.

Only thing I wish they'd change about the show is the entrance theme music >.> some of the ways the singer says some words just irks me [mainly the way he says "14" in 14 billion years ago]. Other than that, I can't truly find any huge problems with the show :3
