Going to San Francisco/Napa Valley/etc for vacation in a few months. Suggestions?

I'm curious what all is cool/worth doing in the SF area. Any recommendations would be swell.

My gf and I already have a pretty long list, but more ideas are welcome.

You have to take a day's walk around the city. Within its CBD there are a number of old electric rails that you can take to get from one place to another. On a larger scale, you can traverse the city and surrounding areas by using the BART transit system.

During a walk, it's always nice to visit the sea, so try out places like Pier 39 - has a lot of great seafood, and street activities. There are also a number of sea lions at the dock. Around there is also an old arcade gallery with some of the wackiest arcade machines and whatnot.

Lombard Street is not particularly fun to drive through, but walking is. It's almost like a small hike if you're traversing upwards. The road itself is just as crooked as the pictures in postcards show.

If you're driving around, there's also a number of famous bridges that you can cross (San Mateo bridge - extremely long; Golden Gate bridge - well-known; a few more). It's actually more interesting to wake up early in the morning and view the area when shrouded with fog - although that clogs up morning commute.

The Chinatown in San Francisco is one of the largest in the states, and unlike some other Chinatowns, it's pretty interesting. Again, it's pretty hilly, so you'll be going up and down a lot.

The food scene in San Francisco is pricey but admittedly pretty good.

If you can find some quiet beaches up on the Bay Area, it's a nice place to enjoy some tranquility. Interesting to walk with fog in the morning.

I don't know much about the Napa Valley, but I bet you'd try out some of the wines there.

Go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Alternatively, drive down to San Luis Obispo (~200 miles south) and have lunch with foil right next to the Pacific ocean.

Monterey is a couple hours drive south. I'd recommend the beaches and amusement park (the Boardwalk), but if you're coming from SF, it takes a while to get there.

It's totally worth it though and they're going to be here for MONTHS.

I'm only going to be there for like a week or so -- it just takes place in a few months.

Oh, I misread that. Shit. Well, it's still pretty neat if you can get down there. It's a great place to spend a day.

Definitely visit Japantown in San Francisco. They have amazing food, also walk a bit and go to Nijiya Market, SUCH COOL STUFF THERE. Chinatown has cheap stuff so go there too. All of the pier areas are nice. You can also go on a boat and visit Alcatraz. OH, and the exploratorium is a cool science museum thingy. They also have a place called the metreon, it's a place full of video game stores and a huge arcade.
