    Stepmania takes too long to load (starting game)

    On every other computer that I play Stepmania on, it loads perfectly fine and fast. However, the computer that I'm currently using, which is better than all of the other computers in terms performance and speed.. loads Stepmania really slow. Every song takes 8-13 seconds to load individually.

    When I had formatted this computer, I couldn't load Stepmania because I didn't have any OpenGL / AGP drivers that were supported until I got some driver for my motherboard / chipset.

    Some people say that v-sync is bad so I turned it off the first time I managed to load Stepmania (but without the song folder). But I had some problems when I loaded Stepmania for the second time after saving the settings: The settings were completely RESET to its factory default settings..meaning I had to change it all back.

    If it has something to do with my drivers in the computer, it could be that because I just formatted this computer and I don't know if the drivers are up-to-date. I don't think you need more than 512mb of RAM to run Stepmania perfectly, because on my previous computer which had half a GB of ram had run SM perfectly fine.

    If I disable OpenGL/AGP on my computer, it will not run Stepmania. Ever since I had AGP installed, I started to have these sort of problems.


    Does anyone have a clue as to why my songs aren't loading as fast?


    EDIT: I opened my log in my Stepmania Folder and I found this:

    00:43.264: WARNING: Error renaming "E:/StepMania/Cache/Songs/new.2688569294.new" to "E:/StepMania/Cache/Songs/2688569294" (Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

      just going by the error message i say delete your cache and start fresh

          I can't even delete it, it says that the directory "Songs" is not empty. =/
          I don't know if I should format it. I've already done a "full" format of the drive.


          EDIT: Performing a quick format of the drive, then starting fresh.

          This is not my main drive (not the one with WINDOWS), this is another drive that I'm using.

              I would run a disk check if you're getting a CRC error. Also, the read speed might just be REALLY slow on the drive... (though I doubt that)

                  Alright. I did a quick format and it worked successfully (with one pack inside)..

                  I forgot to tell you guys that before I made this thread, I was able to load Stepmania but only with one pack (since it loads really slow) and was able to play a song perfectly fine.

                  However, after formatting my drive, I tried playing one song and the response time is way off. I'm supposed to be getting more marvelouses than perfects =/ Now I'm getting more greats than perfects than marvelouses.. yes greats.
                  And I noticed some lag in between the arrows so I don't know what's happening now. My computer is supposed to run a low-end game perfectly. Why can't it? +_+

                      stepmania takes longer to load because its saw new files and doesn't know them. If you use the files a 2nd time its faster. Hope that helps. (I don't)

                          Normally that would have been the case, but LJ still had problems with slow loading even after the 2nd load.

                              Then I say uninstall install stepmania again and start fresh. That worked for me. I had the same problem before. And yes it will be slow to load.

                                  The cache folder is the source of the loading times.
                                  Now the performance is what really pisses me off. It was fine before, but now it's really just creating more trouble.
