    Laptops / Headphones?

I'm looking at buying a nice pair of headphones and a laptop for christmas, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for either. I'd kind of like to keep the laptop under 900 dollars, and the headphones under 100 dollars.
I'm looking for a laptop for college; one that has no problem running games. For headphones, the only requirement is to be over ear.

Finding a sub-$900 laptop that can run today's games well is going to be challenging. Laptops give you far less power for the dollar than desktops do. What games are you looking at, specifically?

One alternative you might consider is building your own $650-700 desktop (which shouldn't be hard to make run games), and buying a $200-$250 netbook to bring to class for note-taking and Internet browsing.

i'd only play HoN and counter-strike on it, and i'm not really looking to get a desktop for college.

What do you want to accomplish with the headphones? Good for listening? Production? Gaming? DJing? They're all made for different uses. I'd suggest spending $60-100 for good headphones. Anything less and you're disservicing yourself

Oh, this should be fine then, neither of those have any notable system requirements.

          You could try this: http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-14/pd?o...odel_id=xps-14

I haven't used a Dell laptop before, but that will run everything you can throw at it just fine. Just be aware that it (probably) won't have decent battery life and will (probably) run quite hot, so it'll be inconvenient to carry around or use in class. Speaking from experience, I am nearly 100% happy with my desktop/netbook combination. The only problem is that I can't really play games with people outside of my room (I solved this by making my room the center of attention anyway :P), but it was several hundred dollars cheaper than a full-fledged notebook that could do what I wanted, so I'm cool with that.

I purchased a Dell Vostro for ~$1000 (after discounts) that plays games decently, and I'm fairly satisfied with the purchase The boot install was slightly messed up but I reinstalled windows anyway; gets pretty hot after a while though so I might wanna invest in a cooler of some sort

If you want even some sort of gaming you'll want to look at discrete gfx card laptops. If you look on newegg/amazon you can def. find a laptop with the specs, but specs aren't everything. I hear Sony getting bad rep for their laptops, but a lot of my friends have them and they function quite alright... for now anyway. Asus is getting prety popular these days but I don't know anybody with one. Lenovo makes good laptops most of the time (acclaimed thinkpad might be out of your range though)

The netbook/desktop thing is also a good suggestion.

By over ear headphones, do you mean circumaural (like cans)? And what kind of music/activities are you planning on doing?
