Ok, it's not THAT bad...but honestly, wtf, get over it. It's an anime with fighting in it, whoopee!

FLCL is the shit, it's great how you have ABSOLUTELY no clue wtf is going on until the last episode. And even then, it doesn't make much sense =)

See, if he said "HEY OMG?!!!!11! Uz LIEK ANIME?! LIEK FOOLY COOLY IS ON TEH CARTOON NTEWROK YEAH!!11!" I would totally flip out.

But he didnt, he referred to it as it's proper name (even in Katakana). Furi Kuri is an awesome anime, but I warn you, the dub version (compared the the Subbed) is not all that great. You dont get them same feeling from the characters as you do with the original Japanese. After all, Japan is famous for its great voice actors and actresses.

If you have no other means of getting a subbed version and are stuck with the cartoon network version, then I suggest watching it muted and getting a script:

I always thought that the FLCL dub was pretty damn good. And this is coming from someone who always watches anime subtitled if possible.

Yea, the dub is almost a direct translation from what I can tell. The only real changes, I think, were when they made cherio into crystal Pepsi and a few other things so it makes more sense to Americans. The thing that kinda bugged me was that the company that dubbed it put in some Japanese words in the dialogue. I was really thrown off by that, because I didn't recognize the words as Japanese until I'd seen the sub. I'd have to say, though, that the dub of FLCL is definitely the best dub I've seen even though it doesn't even come close to the sub.

EDIT: sorry about all this writing here... I am currently reading episode #1 from above and I've found lots of things wrong with it...just before Haruko hits Naota she yells, "itadakimasu!" which literally means something along the lines of "I begin to eat," but I'm pretty sure it is used to complement someone on a meal. Also the word frick appears during the manga scene where it should be furi kuri which really means nothing. And, the whole back and forth thing between Haruko and Kamon is nearly as bad as the dubs version of it. Kamon says something like "how about it," but Haruko thinks he's talking about copper (the Japanese word for copper is similar to the Japanese word for "how"). Then, Kamon says something about "kuri kuri" which is a kneading motion (it's also used to describe breast fondling) and Haruko repeats back "kuri" which means chest nut. Then Kamon says something like "not about chest nuts and squirrels" and, like many Japanese sentences, it ends in "desu" (sort of pronounced like dess) but Haruko hears death (death in Japanese katakana would be pronounced the same). I'm not so sure about the next thing but after this Kamon says "dakara" (which means therefore) and Haruko hears just kara which means empty (hence the empty bubble). It seems to me that this would have served pretty good as a script for a dub but is not a direct translation. Therefore, rather than using this as a resource I suggest you all learn Japanese.

EDIT#2: After having looked through all 6 pages, I've decided this much: episode 1's translation is very poor, episodes 2-5 are excellent (as they are taken right off the official dvd), and I couldn't access episode 6 for some reason. I still suggest learning Japanese though...

EDIT#3: I'm really overusing this edit button but I must add one more thing. Jewpin recommended muting and following on a script. I would say this is a bad idea because you miss out on the awesome music of the Pillows, which really is one of the great things about FLCL. I'd say just ignore what the dub says and listen to sweet music while reading along.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Pillows. How could I be so dumb. I really am mad at myself at the moment. I am such a fan of the Pillows it isnt even funny. But the Dubbed voices are so...not cool. I found the authentic Japanese to be so much better. I just didnt like the dubbed voices. Ugh.

FLCL is coming back on cartoon network on saturdays on adult swim again. My freind withers in pain everytime i force him to watch the show with me, but then in return he forces me to watch that pathetic excuse for an anime called inu-yasha. I love FLCL, and everything about it, mainly the music. Hats off to you, Gainax.

Inuyasha is Great. FLCL is Great. But in my opinion Love Hina PWNS. But like I said thats my opinion.

i have seen all of furi kuri and it is so totally fucking weird and cool at the same time not many animes can pull that off. and the subbed is way better than dubbed as you said.

The only anime canada gets are stupid shows like Yu-gi-oh and...other crap
