ITT we discuss Lost. Season 6 is coming up. Let's discuss theories.
Personally, I am a believer of WHH aka "Whatever Happened, Happened." That is to say, the events of the Season 5 finale occurred pre-Season 1 no matter what. The anomaly did it's thing and the bomb went off. I do think, however, the blast may have sent Jack's team forward in time (leading Alpert of 2007 to assume that he "watched everyone die"), possibly to late 2007, where the original team can meet up with Sun and the others. Regardless, it seems that if they want to change events, they're going to need Desmond.
However, I think Season 6 will start to (inevitably) delve into the supernatural side of things. I suspect the characters of Lost are important because they are reincarnated forms of the island's original inhabitants in some way prior to whatever wiped everyone out (and possibly the statue). The reincarnation idea is also consistent with the fact that some characters have special abilities for no real reason.
