    ddr style chord cohesion ruins keyboard level play and should be removed immediately

    if you don't know what I'm talking about open up faxx, either puppet's for single or rebirth's for solo will do. when the constant column 1 bass jack comes up, mash all columns to the beat and you'll get marvs on everything.

    here's why. stepmania's engine is based off of ddr and in ddr jumps are not judged until the last note of the jump is hit; freezes however can be hit separately from any notes at the same time as it. what's going on is that even though you hit way too many notes each chord is not considered judge until the column 1 taps catch up with it. basically you can hit as many extra notes as you want as long as you don't hit an entire chord early and whenever a constant jack on one column comes up and there are no faster note interval you can mash all columns and not have to care at all about what patterns are there.

    now that I've ruined your illusions about how great a game stepmania is go petition shakesoda to take this out

        Hands are fun.. Hit a jump early and the last note on time and you get a magical Marvelous, OMG creepy

          no I've known this for ages but it can't be stressed enough rofl

          it seriously doesn't work with spread style play at all

                    I might try giving this a shot after I finish the patch I'm currently working on (fixing crash on songs with video bg with certain (old?) graphics cards/drivers). A lot of the SM code is pretty messy, but I'll see what I can do if no one does this before me. Obviously this will have to be a setting somewhere so that pad play can remain the same.

                    - LordHighCaptain on the SM forums.

                    Also, Patashu, I took your ideas into consideration for my online play patch. I made it so the stepfile with the most charts that are also in the stepfile the host selected is the one used. That patch is complete and awaiting approval by the SM devs.

                      yeah ideally this would be like a setting. i'm sure stepmania can handle this because it'd just be equivalent to treating every note as a minifreeze with 0 length (cuz it allows minifreezes to be hit and judged separate from each other)

                        from now on don't step jumps. place a note of the same color later and in between these two notes set bpm to one million and voila, a jump that's not actually a jump

                        now do that for the rest of the file

                          would take eons to step and would need to figure the freeze value for each note of every bpm for the songs you wish to step
