After playing it, I have to say it's much better than FFR IN FFR'S CURRENT STATE.
I say "in FFR's current state" because there's lots of developing to do, and it's in flash. If it were a program, it would be a lot different.
It has some stuff I think FFR would be really cool if it had, but I'll just go ahead and list the pros/cons.
FFR
PROS:
•It's flash.
•It's easier to play.
•It has much better servers.
•You don't need a great keyboard ($20 microsoft internet keyboards work perfectly).
•It has much room for development.
•It's more popular.
CONS:
•Not as advanced as O2Jam (yet)
•Not as good as music (in my opinion, but this will probably change in the future)
•The graphics don't hold a candle to O2's (but this is understandable)
O2Jam
PROS:
•It's a program.
•It has better music (IMO)
•It's more advanced than FFR (currently)
•It's online
•It has better graphics
•Much larger music selection (currently)
CONS:
•Crappy servers
•You need a good keyboard that can register at least 5 notes at once without beeping to be good
•Not easy to get into
•People can set up their IIDX controllers giving an unfair advantage to people without them
•Timing system is worse, and easier than FFR's
•I'd assume you need a good computer too because the game is very graphic heavy
•There aren't many actual hard songs
•Lots of server bugs/problems, not reliable
If FFR keeps going strong it could easily be better than O2Jam in the future (and I say this having heard a lot of secret development ideas/plans which I cannot tell you even if you threaten my beloved Pop'n ASC), but right now O2Jam is simply more advanced. I think around the time of R2 though, Synth is going to have to get a lot more tight with quality and should only hire the best stepmakers like BMR, Cynic and FoObY. There's simply too many sloppy files, even on my part, in the game right now. The fact that there are no speed mods and the game has to round off the arrows to a certain speed makes certain arrows look wonky. When R2 comes out and it'll have speed mods, a lot of problems the game has could be fixed. When R2 happens I think FFR could be at a point where it's even better than Stepmania, but we'll see.
