    Music making program

    I've always liked make music in my head a lot, but today I came up with awesome ideas one after another. I've never been able to do it completely from scratch, usually a complete break-off from another song. But they kept coming. I keep forgetting old ones unfortunately... I can't stand forgetting awesome music I come up with.

    I can no longer remember a single idea I had from earlier, and I can't come up with anything in a similar manner. It's really frustrating. For those of you who make music, how do you deal with this? There's nothing to really remember it by. What I was coming up with was fairly complex. I can't imagine trying to remember it until I can make it real.

    It was almost exclusively 2 guitars I was focusing on, and I tried throwing in drums which went well. I can't say I'm completely familiar with playing bass so I'm not even sure if what I was coming up with was possible without it.

    And if you're wondering, the closest I could categorize the music is symphonic-techno-metal.

          I scanned the titles but nothing stuck out for some reason - woops. Instead, I'll try to focus the thread on a different part of it by changing the original post.

              I agree, do read the sticky, but to answer your second question;

              Knowing how to notate music makes remembering melodies SO much easier. You may think "Bah, humbug! I don't need to read music!", but most of the time it helps. Now if you already do know how to notate music, I suggest going to your local borders (or other major book store) and buying a sheet music journal. They're journals just filled with empty sheet music for notation, and only cost about 6-10 bucks depending on where you buy them. Another thing; If you're thinking about using software synthesizers, there's no way of notating things like envelope, filters, LFO frequency, etc.

                  Try playing the layers out on a piano and writing down the notes. The most frustrating thing I go through is coming up with tunes at the moment when I nearly fall asleep. I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me.
